      Didn’t we pass tariffs on Harley Davidson and stuff when Trump started as a president and he banned European products? It might be a French thing, I can’t recall.

      Is he talking about cars that are manufactured in the US and then shipped to Europe for sales?

      Ford Europe builds its cars in Europe. It doesn’t build them in Michigan and then puts them on boats.

      It certainly is possible to build a car in the US, to US regulations, and ship it to Europe though. That’s how my car got here. But generally this is something that individuals do, not dealerships. And certainly not car manufacturers. Why would they? It’s dumb. You only end up paying out the ass for logistics.

      There are a few cars that are so wildly out of step with EU regs that they straight up can’t be driven here though. The Cybertruck afaik is one of those. So that’s probably the context for this dumb conversation.

      You can’t sell a car made in the US in EU because it 99% doesn’t comply with the exhaust and safety regulations here.

      You can’t just build a monster polluter and brand it a truck here to avoid regulation. Good on Europe.

      you also cannot make Trump in the USA and export him to the EU. It does not meet emission requirements and is large …. (everyone fills it up by themselves).

      No they dont want to buy a lot of the cars made in the US.

      Plenty of cars made in the US DO get sold in europe, just not the large dumb trucks, giant SUV and pickups

      I didn’t know this until the day before yesterday, when I found a nice cheap car that was imported from the US into EU and the car dealer didn’t want to buy it and get it for me because they’d have to make sure it is safe and fulfils European safety regulations.

      Was a bit confused but I guess they’re different.

      As long as the cars are good enough (as in they pass minimum legal requirements) they can be exported to the EU.

      It’s just that many US made models can’t, or could but don’t have enough willing buyers in the EU for it to be worthwhile.

      Tschnically, if you build a car with only usa requirements in mind it wont be able to be sold in europe due to a little bit different standards.

      The same is true for European-built cars being sold in America. You can’t just take a Skoda built in Czechia and bring it over. Regulations are different even for basic things like headlight beam patters, side markers, bumpers, etc.

      Trump just has a pattern of “discovering” widely known things, then saying “nobody knew…”. A few years ago he famously said “nobody knew healthcare can be so complicated”; *everyone* in America knows this, it’s the only developed country in the world without guaranteed healthcare for all.

      I mean old polluting petrol cars no, or super big trucks/SUVs no.

      But I wouldn’t mind if some US EV’s were available here, like Rivian / Lucid etc, that are too small scale to set up local factories here.

      Ford mach-e is already here, but not specced to Nordic environments (no heat pumps for winter, just a bigger battery pack, etc).

      Tesla is here, but manufactured locally/China.

      Another example how rich people are totally unhinged when it comes to real life.

      The only American cars I have seen on the roads are the imported RAMs. To this day I wonder how these people drive them. They are massive. Too huge for a peaceful home-work-home drive.

      Maybe in Norway, Sweden, Finland – There I see them more fitting. Fjords, mountains, tayga, tundra – This stuff. But in the middle of Silesian Metropolis? Please…

      The endless amounts of giant American pick up trucks and SUVs that I see around here would beg to differ.

      It would be nice if we would drastically increase tax on cars after a certain size. There is no need for people to drive giant cars around in the city taking up 2 parking spaces and destroying the roads.

      The interview also made remarks on health and drug administration diferences between Europe and USA. Trump said a lot of Americans come to Europe to take drugs that are not legal in America. I find this statement really odd given the USA have one of the most liberal policies the world. My take is that Americans came to be treated in Europe for its health care public system… must more cheaper for an avarege citizen. A simple blood work can cost hundreds of dollars.

      He’s got a point. Modern American cars are, with the exception of the GT 40, Covette or Ford Raptor, garbage. Take the European mentality of cars – they’re seen as different uses in differnt countries. France for example see a car as a utility, the Britush with 4 hots days a year, think a cabriolet is the dog’s bollocks and the Germans need precision and autobahn Vorsprung Durch Technik. And, the Italians ainn’t putting a Corvette on their streets.
