**data source** [National Phenology Network](https://www.usanpn.org/) showing first spring leaf index for this year
>The First Leaf Index is based on the leaf out of lilacs and honeysuckles, which are among the first plants to show their leaves in the spring. This Index is associated with the first leafing of early-spring shrubs and other plants.
As someone in central PA I can say this is complete BS
I live in Chicago, who said spring started? It’s been 20-30 every morning for past two weeks, and only a high of 40/50.
We have daffodils and hyacinth in bloom already in Michigan. The crocuses were blooming at the end of February. The maple syrup season was very brief and way early as well. Spring is definitely several weeks ahead of schedule this year.
My daffodils were blooming on March 1 – Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Been watching the weather forecasts and may be able to put my non-cold hardy plants back outside now.
