This seems relevant, given how many people are questioning the need for normalisation of taxes on EVs/Hybrids

  2. Have they factored in ground pressure, as SUVs usually have larger and wider wheels which spread the weight over a larger area, so overall ground pressure might be comparable to a saloon, I’m not the greatest fan of SUVs and Crossovers but they are still lighter than almost every commercial vehicle.

Also just from the width of the potholes around me, it’s 100% trucks causing it, as much like the tram lines, they are suspiciously the same width as a twin wheel axle on a truck.

Okay. Well maybe we need to rethink how we make roads. If they want everyone to eventually drive electric which are around 25% heavier then this will be an ongoing issue.

  4. Of course they are, but people are having to consider more SUVs because the alternative is broken suspension, cracked rims or blown tyres. There appears to be very little quality or long term fixes that come with britains road potholes.

  5. Odd that they say suvs & heavier vehicles rather than be a little more explicit about electric vehicles? I’m renting a fiat 500e while I wait for delivery and it weighs ~50% more than the ice version, and every little helps…
