    I didn’t read any reasons here „why Japan cannot do the same.“ Japan’s a sovereign nation, they could send the US military packing. The only thing stopping them is agreements that America would wipe its ass with in the event of a conflict with China anyway.

    As unpopular as the idea is, (and for good reason, I don’t dismiss the legitimate concerns of such actions), if Japan wants to be serious about their national security, they need to have their own nuclear arsenal. It’s the only sure-fire deterrent that aggressor nations respect. They can throw all the money they want at the JSDF but they’ll never be competent or size-able enough to handle a large-scale conflict on their own. They can continue capitulating to America in hopes they’ll help with defense, but that era’s in the past now.

    The right answer’s not always the politically popular one.
