Wofür steht eine liberale Partei, die Marilyn Gladu akzeptiert, neben dem Sieg eigentlich?

    >what does a Liberal Party that will accept Marilyn Gladu actually stand for?

Carney correctly perceived the LPC as the follow-the-leader party. On the strength of his adult-in-the-room and technocrat bona fides, he yoinked the LPC to the vacated centre, the space not occupied since maybe Paul Martin. In a government that has firmly occupied the centre left to centre right of federal politics, it shouldn’t be surprising that red Tories find the prospect of joining it appealing.

    I like the following assumptions

    – Liberal = left
    – Only the left is bound by principles
    – Any movement rightward by the already moderate LPC is a betrayal of the left, who isn’t actually represented by the LPC

Nothing. I am truly disappointed as a resident of her riding that Carney’s standards are so low. I have had a front row seat for many of her terrible stances – immigrants, Trump, LGBTQ, trucker convoy/vaccination. One of the comments on r/Sarnia was that she might be onside for some if the development plans and might even get a cabinet seat. If that happens my faith in Carney is gone. She is a terrible person and hopefully will languish in the backbenches.

  5. The liberal party is now anti vax, pro trucker and pro life. They can’t deny that. I can’t believe liberals are now pro conversion therapy.

  6. Conservative journalist Robyn Urback sounds pretty salty. Is she surprised Carney is trying to get a majority so that the Liberal Party can lead and do stuff.
If PP had won and got Liberals to join she’d be praising him.

Edit: Of course the conservative sub is salty too. Maybe ask yourself why PP suck so much and why they’re leaving one by one.

It’s a fair question. It’s also a fair question to ask what Marilyn Gladu stands for. Given her record as a very conservative MP how does she possibly justify this?

The moderate Tories were one thing. This is baffling for both sides.

  8. Despite giving the liberals a majority as a conservative Im loving this. The shittiest people are crossing the floors its gonna fracture the liberals in the long run.

  9. It’s a party that governs for all Canadians. Even those we disagree with. Good in a majority government

  10. We deserve better, our government has failed us, they used to lie about serving the community at least, now we have PM net worth go from 300k to 30 million and no one’s questions anything.

All sides are guilty, the people need to unite and demand justice, accountability and transparency.

Contrary to what some believe, and this is just my take, I don’t think Carney accepting Gladu crossing the floor means that he would model his party’s policies to align with some of Gladu’s views regarding the LGBTQ community and related issues. The intolerance of many CPC members towards those communities was one of the things that kept them from getting more votes. Just look at how PP not attending pride events, but having the deputy leader Melissa Lantsman represent the party at Pride in his place, hurt him as far as voting support went for that group and groups aligned with them.

A signature part of the Liberal base and brand is built on inclusion of those marginalized groups. And if Carney tried to pivot the entire party to cater to this one MP crossing the floor, it would put him at odds with almost every MP in his party who believes in the overall Liberal party positions regarding inclusion and protection for those groups.

I think it could be a case where Gladu would vote with the Liberal party on certain economic policies being pushed, while possibly abstaining from voting on certain social policies she’s not for. That’s my feeling, that it’s a matter of her joining because she sees common ground on some economic policies, and feels that’s more important that whatever differences of opinion she holds on social issues.

Again, this is just speculation on my part. Of all the MPs to have crossed the floor, she is definitely the one who is seen as the most socially conservative of them. One theory for the other conservative MPs crossing the floor was that they liked Carney’s economic policies enough to feel it outweighed whatever differences of opinions they had on social policies. That could be the case for Gladu, but again, it’s just speculation, and it will take time to see what position she takes on new proposals and bills going forward.

Very fair question. I do not believe her values align with the Liberal party.

  13. It’s a bit disappointing. Hopefully many of these floor crosses will go back if the CPC chooses a better leader.

  14. She said “Today, there is both the opportunity — and the responsibility — to build our country’s strength and success with a more constructive, collaborative approach” and honestly, that. I have no problem with it. Constructive and collaborative. Hopefully, she has a voice in the Liberal caucus. We don’t have to agree with all her views but we should all try to find a way to move forward.

  15. At this point the Libs and Cons should merge. Banker boy stands for nothing and believe only in money and power.
