Das französische Fischerdorf hilft der Ukraine beim Fang russischer Drohnen

In recent weeks, two consignments of nets measuring a total of around 125 miles (200km) left Brittany for Ukraine, to be used to protect soldiers and civilians along the front line.

Russia deploys small [first-person drones](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/03/31/russian-drone-skewers-ukrainian-aircraft-in-mid-air/) and fits them with explosives, directing them by remote control for distances of up to 15 miles to their targets. Ukrainian [soldiers and civilians](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/03/24/wave-of-russian-strikes-kill-five-in-ukraine/) alike have been targeted by Russia’s [drone pilots](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/09/25/hole-europes-drone-defence-russia-hungary/).

The Ukrainians use the nets to create tunnels in which drones tangle their propellers and fail to reach their targets.

The first were sent last October, and now ports across Brittany are offering their used nets to Kyiv. In all, around 932 miles of netting have reached Ukraine. Another 40-odd bags are ready to go in the harbour.

Patrick Le Roux, the mayor of Quiberon, is proud of his town’s small contribution, saying: “Here in France, our values are liberty, equality and fraternity. And we cannot conceive of one people being attacked like that by another country.

“Besides, it puts [old nets to good use](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/06/01/ukraine-is-losing-its-drone-supremacy/). And for them, it helps them defend their country, so it’s actually a really wonderful project.”
