Took two weeks to translate the article?
FIFA is such a joke. Their system, the corruption, and the people in charge are an embarrassment to the human condition. And here I was thinking my ex had the worst controlling issues.
What a waste of money
I’m actually really glad they withdrew. I’d much rather F1 than this.
Vancouver didn’t even want to to host to begin with
Honestly we lost nothing by not hosting this shitshow of an event. It’s costing Toronto hundreds of millions to host a group stage event that carries no significance at all. We don’t need to be shaken down by the single most corrupt organizing body in the world.
Based on everything that John Oliver has told us about FIFA the past 10 or so years…I’m not surprised by what I read here.
Oh, look. The organization that makes up trophies to bribe world leaders with has „strict conditions.“
Ohhh…I’m so hurt we didn’t get their peace prize! /s
Anyone remember the 76 Olympics…..
it’s for the best.
anyone who’s ever watched a soccer game at the Olympic Stadium knows how shit it is. views are horrible.
Hindsight is 20/20 as they say, but with the way the world goes, the relationship with the southern neighbor, and the reality of how the tournament will go, I wish that Canada was not involved in the hosting at all. Because now, Canada is complicit to whatever shenanigan between FIFA and the United States. CMNT would have been strong enough to qualify on its own.
In Vancouver, FIFA is shutting down a local skatepark for multiple weeks, that’s too close to fan fest for “safety reasons”. We’re also canceling the annual dragon boat festival because of FIFA (a number of other festivals are at risk of being shut down this summer too, but that’s due to the city’s “zero means zero” tax policy gimmick necessitating a massive increase in event fees).
When we hosted the Olympics we invested in longterm infrastructure improvements but sadly we aren’t doing anything like that for the Word Cup.
I hope it goes well, Canada wins some matches, and everyone has a good time. But I think it was a bad investment by the city and Montreal made the right choice.
The only time Quebec and Montreal makes a good decision lmao let’s celebrate this rare occurence
Fuck Fifa and the world cup
This is why I hate multinational sport stuff. Local AAA teams / regional municipality teams are always way better to watch and super affordable.
