Well hopefully they’ll have their decision made for them if he’s denied a visa to enter the country.
Visiting another country is a privilige, no matter how famous you are, and if you hold views which go against the values of that country (as West does) that privilige should not be granted.
The reality is, he was booked because it would sell tickets. Nothing more. The apologies are just lip service. This is how the music industry operates.
Wireless festival boss realizing he just fucked up bad!!
I am sure there are plenty more artists more deserving of a second chance than this tosser.
Let them keep on him the roster and then block him on arrival
Wireless is a shit hole full of chavs. None of them give two fucks about what he’s done.
However their sponsors have walked, and that’s another matter.
Wrong decision, hate preachers should not be allowed entry into the UK.
I hear they have a replacement lined up just in case he falls through….. Kid Rock.
Hopefully he doesn’t say something stupid again and get arrested live on-stage for expressing support for a proscribed group or something like that. Or maybe that would sell even more tickets?
It’s almost as if the audience should be the judges?
If any of us said or did what Kanye has said or done, we would be facing chronic unemployment as consequences for the rest of our lives and I say this as someone who used to listen to his music back in the day….
I like how we can have a convicted terrorist run for council but Kanye is somehow a step to far 😂
Statement starts off by saying he’s an anti fascist
I don’t think booking a guy who sold swastika shirts and wrote lyrics like “Heil Hitler my n***a” aligns with that but whatever lol
I had to read this twice.
I think Benn is a bloody idiot with his reasoning, kayne west blamed his bipolar for his Swastika shirt choice is debatable, he has enough people in his camp to say that was a bad idea and still go through it.
Kayne has a lot of people micromanaging him. This isn’t some guy who was denied mental health support (add to the public opinion a lot of celebs use mental health as a PR smokescreen) Is he going to blame supporting Trump and Maga on bipolar as well?
And this just reminds people who intend to go to the venue what kayne did. Forgiveness and moving on is a thing but people have a right who they want to be associated with, kayne made his mistakes, and sometimes (and we nearly all have in some way) have to accept there’s no comeback to some of them.
At the very least inform your sponsors about the idea in advance and get a feedback or agreement you respect and not terminate any existing contracts.
This is just a disaster and to think something like this is occurring at a venue like this.
Really all that’s left is to see neo nazi or other far right visitors come to cheer during the showing. It’s just been one very bad PR.
Mr Benn is a music industry veteran so his seeming naivety in not anticipating this level of backlash to booking Kanye West is surprising. I think it’s almost certain the Home Office won’t let him in. Did Festival Republic not think that might happen?
Well, we did just invite Al-Sharaa into Number 10 the other day didn’t we?
And he was literally an al-Qaeda terrorist…
Not sure why Starmer cares so much about the words of Kanye, when he can literally have a certified terrorist jihadist in the Prime Minister’s office
As I said elsewhere disability is partly social, FDR was far less disabled than a coal miner suffering the same condition say because he had cooks and cleaners and drivers and speech writers… why the man did jack shit for himself to begin with so it had far less of an impact on his life than for others.
So whether Kanye deserves forgiveness is an open question but trying to put him in the same league as a normal person suffering from bipolar disorder is just ludicrous. If you have all the medical and personal assistance in the world and apparently choose not to get treated or get someone to lock your accounts or give someone power of attorney that becomes a bit of a choice and the reason he could go on a year long incredibly public anti-Semitic hate campaign and apparently suffer few impacts is a sign of just how privileged he is!
Kanye West headlined in 2015 and he spent most of the time telling everyone how hard his life was. He then snowballed into this mental health crisis which I cannot dismiss, he’s clearly not in his right mind BUT one apology after years of hate speech, and him and all these other companies expecting the general public to just rack it up to his MH problems is fucking tone deaf. Yeah there was one public statement of apology but has he don’t anything else to show sorrow in the affect of his actions? No. Not a fucking thing. No I don’t think he is actually a Nazi, yes I think his psychosis is to blame but my god, why are so many institutions letting him swan back into the mainstream without a little more lip service for the awful awful behaviour? Pay your dues you entitled, selfish man
Never mind what the «Wireless Festival boss» says.
The Wireless Festival is owned and managed by Live Nation, and Live Nation is the world’s #1 business in live concerts and ticketing. They own Ticketmaster and, according to Wikipedia:
«As of early 2023, Live Nation’s annual shareholders report says the company has controlling interests in 338 venues globally and believes itself to be „the largest live entertainment company in the world,“ „the largest producer of live music concerts in the world,“ „the world’s leading live entertainment ticketing sales and marketing company,“ and „one of“ the world’s biggest artist management companies and music advertising networks for corporate brands.»

When a major Live Nation festival books and promotes Kanye West, it is quite likely approved by the boss of the Wireless Festival boss.
Ye, maybe not the best guy to perform while hate attacks against jews are the most popular hate attacks in the UK by 10x.
Really not sure how to feel here. People should be given the chance to repent and it gives people behaving shitty to change their behaviour. Also though what he said and did was pretty deplorable
This isn’t Kanye just having (another) apology moment. It’s well documented that he does something absurd/offensive before an album is released then backtracks when the criticism gets too much.
I miss the old Kanye.
The big defensive speech always comes <48 hours before a resignation…
Maybe you can get instant forgiveness from the church, but the rest of the world is going to need to see many YEARS of contrition for that level of shit. At a minimum. Personally I don’t think I will ever think well of the guy again, and nobody should feel obliged to.
Melvin Benn has a fair point, in a broader sense, about forgiveness, but he’s backing the wrong horse to make that point.
Whilst there should be more forgiveness generally, and we are far too quick to call for people and things to be sacked / cancelled / boycotted for much more minor stuff than this, that forgiveness shouldn’t be at the expense of consequence – and that’s really what Benn has an issue with here. The consequence of booking Kanye has been the loss of some very significant sponsors, and that’s his concern.
Probably knows Kanye won’t turn up anyway and will be issuing refunds
Is Kanye still in his “I’m sorry I am ill” era? Or has he already back tracked?
I remember back during my festival days, plenty of artists were bottled off stage, wouldn’t be the worst idea to bring that back.
