  1. Roughly half of all kids died before reaching maturity as a matter of course. That didn’t stop until modern medicine and sanitationmmessures began to be invented in the Industrial Revolution.

Before agriculture, the infant mortality rate would have been even _higher_, on par with the rate for other animals of a similar ecological niche and lifestyle (probably 60-80%), keeping the population in check just like everything else.

  4. Probably all the kids that were killed when king Herod ordered his men to kill all male children in Bethlehem and its surrounding areas who were two years old and under. This is in the bible

Makes you wonder what is it between these young souls and the jeffery epstein types. What are they doing with young children, are they actually being eaten.

Is it 2,500 or 2,000-year-old? If it were a 2,000-year-old mass grave, it would explain the Massacre of the Holy Innocents recounted in the Gospel of Matthew since Tel Azekah is 15 miles from Bethlehem.

For those who don’t know the story, it goes like this. Herod, the King of Judea, fearing that the newborn child Jesus would overthrow him, decided to kill him. Except, he didn’t know who Jesus was nor how he looked like. Because of this, he ordered for every male toddler 2 years and younger hailing from Bethlehem and its vicinity, to be killed.

  7. This is a complicated idea for modern observers and relates to when babies were considered „people“ and given the same burial customs as adults. Children were often unturned in clay jars under houses.
Most of the bones were for children under 2, so likely unweened. Mass grave makes it sound worse, the bones were placed here over time, not in some singular event. They were placed here more likely due to high levels of infant mortality rates during the vast majority of history. The bones were laid out and the remains show no signs of trauma, no signs of being passed through the fire as some have speculate.
