With the tax free allowance being locked until 2028 won’t that just mean pensioners will be paying a lot of the rise back in tax due to being above £12,570?

They have got to introduce some reform for this shit. Get rid of the triple lock.

At least give people the opportunity to waive their state pension. How insane is it that you can’t just turn it down? Some people would do it, I would. If you’ve got a decent private pension, whats the point. If even a small subset of people choose to, it would still ease pressure on public finances. Maybe they could throw in some little incentives.

  3. It looks like it rises roughly by 8.20 per week after income tax.

I didn’t do a proper calculation. Just a tired mans calculation.

  4. What about Carers on Carers Allowance? We can’t even afford to move out from the parents we care for? Don’t get any help with rent at all.

What about unemployed who are being rejected by employers who take to long to hire anyway? The money isn’t enough to cover basic cost of living…

They like their scheme about getting disabled people back into work, why don’t they try one for getting pensioners back into work?

Question is, which political party will be brave enough to take action against the triple lock? It’s economic suicide that has to be tackled sooner or later, no ifs no buts. There won’t be enough NI contributions to fund this ill-thought scheme soon enough.

  7. Can we means test it at some point?

There’s so many rich pensioners, millionaires getting the state pension

It’s like if a rich banker got universal credit, it seems wrong

Surely this should be benefits tested, my mother in law has a couple of million and collect this pension, bloody ridiculous. Us millennials are paying for it and we will not get anything like it when we aim to retire

Surely if your net worth is over £1m you should be excluded from state pensions

The rise is less than the real inflation rate, which they use for student loan interest.

Whos getting the biggest non productive inflation busting pay rises every year?

    Pensioners.

Who got their taxes cut by 50% over the last 20 years?

Non workers gaining money by capital gains like rishi sunak.

Whos expected to have more tax with worse pay than 2008?

    Everyone else.

  12. And young people struggle for work, while being vilified for claiming benefits. Make it make sense.

Yay another cruise each year for the richest generation in British history all at the expense of future generations. Love me a bit of inter generational theft.

Meanwhile, nurses work long days in shit conditions and get another below inflation pay rise.

I often get abuse from pensioners too.

Meanwhile, my wage continues to stagnate, I can’t afford to contribute much toward my pension. And I’ll be fucked come retirement. Let’s just hope I die before I’m unable to work…

  16. We should take the vote away from anyone who lives on public money. It would prevent the runaway collapse of people voting to give themselves the treasury. Want to keep voting as a boomer? Turn down your state pension.

  17. Wonder how many times state pension age will increase by the time I get there… not going to see a penny are we?
