Someone of a migrant background is a person who is either born abroad or has either one or both parents born outside of the Netherlands.
In total, 27.9% of the dutch population has a migrant background.
Cities with the highest share of migrant background people are as follows:
The Hague: 59.9% migrant background
Amsterdam: 59.6% migrant background
Rotterdam: 56.5% migrant background
Wow, that is depressing
They did it to themselves. I have no sympathy.
Turkish people have been in Germany, France, and all surrounding countries since just after WW2 when they came to these countries seeking a better life as workers helping to rebuild post-war Europe. Many have been there for 60, 70, 80 years.
Suriname and Indonesia are former dutch colonies. I am sure there more than a few people with mixed backgrounds coming from these two countries and considered dutch.
As far as I’m aware, due to its geographical and economic situation as the powerhouse of north european trade, the Netherlands have traditionally been home to people of a number of cultures for hundreds, if not even thousands of years.
For me its what makes it such an interesting and vibrant place.
What happened with Surinamese?
A little background on why these countries in the 1960s and 1970s there was a labour shortage and large numbers of Turkish and Moroccans were invited over, they built communities and as a result many still come to Netherlands when looking to move to Europe.
Suriname and Indonesia were both Dutch colonial holdings so many moved to Netherlands over that period and they remain closely linked.
Lastly the 1.6 million from Europe are due to the freedom of movement in the EU (they way I came to the Netherlands). I would imagine a large percentage of them are Belgian especially from the Flanders region since they also speak Dutch, cross border German families are also pretty common.
Even Geert Wilders is ¼ Indonesian, as an Indonesian that’s wild lol
That’s insane. Complete cultural suicide.
Negerlands.
Based on my impression talking to Dutch people, Indonesians and Surinamese have a much more positive reputation than Turkish and Moroccans (especially the latter)
I thought this was about Ukrainian migrants…
