This is the one that will really be interesting to watch, because last April’s election was, for all intents and purposes, a tie.
The question is, I guess, does the national trend of good polling for the Liberals hold here, or is there a local twist to things on the cards?
I don’t know how great the turnout will be this weekend because of Easter celebrations. It may be an outlier.
So, the voting starts today for one of the most interesting by-elections of my lifetime. And certainly a unique one : one caused by the election results being annuled by the Supreme Court. An occurence so rare it might not happen again in my life.
And the results matter. If the Liberals don’t win Terrebonne for the first time since 1980, they would have only 172 seats. It would be 171 Liberal MPs versus 171 opposition MPs, and, by tradition, the liberal Speaker would have to vote for the status quo, sometimes even against his own government.
This makes this by-election doubly special.
