      >’Stolen golden helmet from Drents Museum recovered‘, press conference this afternoon

      >The golden helmet that was stolen from the Drents Museum last year has been recovered. Art detective Arthur Brand reported this to the NOS. Brand could not comment on the condition of the helmet, but he did confirm that it had not been melted down. He could not say anything about the fate of the other stolen art treasures.

      >The Public Prosecution Service only reports that there are new developments in the case and that a press conference regarding this will be held in Assen this afternoon.

      >The Public Prosecution Service, the Drents Museum, and the National Historical Museum in Bucharest could not confirm the discovery of the Romanian art treasures to the NOS.

      >On the night of January 24 to 25, 2025, a break-in occurred at the museum in Assen using a firework bomb. The stolen pieces had been loaned for an exhibition by the National Historical Museum in the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Until today, as far as is known, there was not a single trace of the treasures. Three men are on trial for the robbery: Douglas W. (36), Bernhard Z. (35) and Jan B. (21). The case will be heard in the court in Assen this spring.

The helm of Cotofenesti. Thank god they found it. It was a terrible loss and big scandal.

      Excellent news!

Also, Dutch is amazing. If I presented the (written) sentence

      >De gouden helm die vorig jaar uit het Drents Museum werd gestolen, is terecht.

to a slightly tipsy german, they’d be able to make out a lot.

      Good news everyone!

Apparently the Dutch DOJ made a deal with the thieves for the return of the stolen treasures. Sadly only 2 of the 3 stolen bracelets could be recovered and the helmet itself was slightly damaged, tho not beyond restoration. Where the third bracelet is, as well as where all the stolen treasures were all this time is still unknown.

But the fact that they’ve been found, and weren’t molten down for their gold is great news for Romanian, as well as our European cultural heritage
