The State Department asked the US embassy in Madrid to open an investigation to gather information about the case, reported on Wednesday the New York Post, which had access to the communications.

The administration of Donald Trump also requested that “serious concerns” be conveyed to the Spanish government regarding the “many systemic failures in the area of human rights” that led Noelia Castillo to resort to medically assisted death.

Noelia’s family dysfunction led her to live apart from her parents from the age of 13, under the guardianship of the Government of Catalonia, in various residential care centers for minors.

In 2022, the young woman was the victim of sexual assault at the institution where she was living, a trauma that led to a suicide attempt. Noelia jumped from a fifth floor and survived with complete paraplegia from the waist down.

This irreversible physical condition resulted in “severe dependency, pain, and chronic disabling suffering,” ultimately leading her to request euthanasia.

US officials are questioning why the case did not reach the courts.

“We are deeply concerned by the allegations that Ms. Castillo was repeatedly the victim of sexual assaults while under state care and that none of the perpetrators were brought to justice,” reads the message obtained by the New York Post.

In addition, they indicate that Noelia Castillo expressed “doubts” about the procedure “in her final hours,” but that these signs were allegedly ignored.

The Spanish press cites the American newspaper without providing any details about this supposed hesitation.

El Mundo reports that the case was approved by the Catalonia Guarantee and Evaluation Commission, the independent body that reviews and authorizes each request for assisted death, in accordance with all the requirements set out in the euthanasia law.

Noelia Castillo died last Thursday at the age of 25 at the Hospital Residencial Sant Camil, in Barcelona, after waiting more than 600 days for euthanasia.

The young Catalan woman had to face her father in a two-year legal battle that went through the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and even the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, all of which ultimately allowed her to proceed with the procedure.

Gerónimo Castillo argued that his daughter did not have the psychological capacity to make the decision to end her life, but several medical assessments confirmed that the young woman was in full possession of her mental faculties.

The procedure lasts around 15 minutes and consists of administering a cocktail of three different drugs. The law allows the person to be accompanied, but Noelia expressly requested that her parents not be present.

Does the United States not have enough own problems? Or are the looking into a reason to bring democracy to Spain to use the airspace again?

  3. This is just to create justification for retributions against Spain for refusing to become a US vassal

Why is this any of the usa’s business? Oh right, distraction.

This from the country that has suicide by cop as a thing.

  5. >The administration of Donald Trump also requested that “serious concerns” be conveyed to the Spanish government regarding the “many systemic failures in the area of human rights”

This is absolutely laughable, in the face of the accusers, were it not for the tragedy of that poor woman and her family.

Either way, none of your fucking business, USSA. Fuck off now.

  6. Trump just literally bombed a school full of children. I hope Spain will investigate that.

  7. Putos pedofilos quieren venir aqui a dar lecciones de etica. Go fuck yourselves, I’m sure you can understand that.

  8. Now imagine how weird would it be for any other country like Spaim to go investigate anything happening in another country, idk like Bangladesh. The concept of „investigating“ like they are the supreme leaders amd the holders of the absolute truth of the World makes me so pissed and sick. Like just shut tf at this point, nobody likes you.

  9. Maybe President Trump could provide expert testimony on sexual assault, especially the “grab em by the pussy” method.

This is nothing but a pathetic attempt at payback for not supporting Trump’s latest lunacy in the middle east. What a bunch of pathetic losers.

I was gonna say: imagine exploiting the fate of an unfortunate young lady for your own gain. But then I realised that such thing is Trump’s favourite way to spend his vacation.

  11. They should investigate the epstein files first, then any dictatorship… before going after a european democracy.

Mónica García, Spain’s Health Minister, responded to these movements by demanding that U.S. President Donald Trump “stop fueling the ultra-international agenda and interfering in everything”:

“Spain is a serious country, with a solid healthcare system and a framework of rights that protects and cares for everyone, including those who choose to request assistance in dying with dignity in contexts regulated by law, assessed by clinical committees and approved by the courts,” the minister wrote on the social network X.

So this is clearly retaliation for Spain’s Sanchez being super outspoken about how much Trump sucks, right?

What are they investigating? This is outside their jurisdiction

  15. The SA happened on a disco, not on a gubernamental institution, that’s fake news perpetrated by the far-right media here.

  16. I thought this was a april’s fool joke…

Really? USA investigating this? USA? Hahahahahaha oh god I almost choked…

  17. Investigating? Do they think she was keeping the Epstein files or something ?

  18. Investigate away? 😂. Americans and inserting themselves places they were never invited, name a more iconic duo.

It’s April Fools, right! Right? But of course it’s not. It’s the glue-huffing twats over in Washington at it again.

Getting their soiled undies in a twist because Spain refuses to kiss the ring.

I sincerely hope that the Spanish authorities tell them to take a long walk on a short pier.

  20. Maybe the spanish judiciary should investigate Donald Trump’s involvement in a pedophile network, his corruption accusations, the war crimes commited by his government and army at his command, etc etc

  21. Maybe Spain could start an investigation on the Epstein files, who knows, maybe they’ll find something.

  22. DeliciousCut4854 on

Hey, let’s blow up poor fishermen and shoot people on the street and kill lots of children but go after a country when someone *chooses* suicide, claiming it’s about human rights. Sickening.

  23. Another day another distraction from the Epstein files and the disastrous war campaign they are leading

The US, Israel and Russia (the contemporary axis of evil who hardly hide their friendship and mutual admiration) together have murdered on average about 400-500 innocent Palestinians, Ukrainians, Iranians and Lebanese per day over the past four years.

But when a woman who doesn’t want to live wins the right to die after years of legal battles it suddenly becomes a problem. And its primarily a problem because Spain refuses to kiss the boot and help the US kill civilians in Iran. The US is a disgrace, and any European who advocates for the continuation of the transatlantic alliance should have a good look in the mirror.

  25. Please. The US dosen’t give a shit about that poor girl. They are just looking for reasons to make Spain look bad. Meanwhile they are currently making people in the US disappear. Killing civilians. They have some fuckin nerve

  26. Likely far-right fake news with origin in Spain. All the process has been attacked by far-right movements using lawfare and now they are trying to keep it going

  27. OrganicOverdose on

Investigate euthanasia in Spain; a voluntary, informed medical decision.

Ignore the implementation of literal death camps in Israel.

    Well done, USA.

  28. Is this the same country that has the biggest world jailed population and that has kids pregnant in ice detention facilities?

  29. Spain should retaliate and investigate healthcare CEOs, then declare them criminals and recommend some INTERPOL stops.

  30. Maybe Spain should start investigating ICE and the start of the war in Iran together with possible war crimes.

  31. Hopefully they find enough Epstein Files to jail the orange idiot forever
