Maybe this dystopian shit will be the kicking point for Democrats to come out in unison against the Iran War, but for some reason I feel that’s wishful thinking.
As *The Guardian* reported about Cory Booker’s recent appearance on Meet the Press:
>Booker did not directly reject the US government’s involvement in Iran, but criticized the administration’s handling of it.
You can criticize the Trump administration all you want, but money for the U.S. government’s involvement in another foreign state has to come from somewhere.
It blows my mind how the rhetoric surrounding healthcare coverage always focuses on patients and absolutely NEVER on the healthcare providers who need to get paid for their work.
Cutting coverage for another 300,000 means more medical debt for patients and more barriers to care. But it also means healthcare providers end up taking a hit a lot of times because they don’t want to leave their patients stranded.
The American Medical Association finally woke up from their long slumber about 10 years too late and has only finally begun pushing back against these cuts since maybe a year ago.
I’m not saying this as an “oh, the poor doctors!” sentiment but more of a “there a ton of well-paid professionals and their clients who are going to get fucked because of this and nobody is organized to fight it.”
This should’ve never panned out like this. It didn’t have to.
Insurers have the upper hand 1000x over while the people doing the actual work and the ones having the work done have just about zero leverage within the equation.
Good thing the republican base is so wealthy and doesn’t live in rural areas with few healthcare options!
If they didn’t have those bootstraps to pull themselves up with they would be screwed.
And the Republicans will blame it on the Democrats.
>Michael Hardaway, a geopolitical strategist who has worked for top Democrats, argued that they “must convert this into a House AND Senate majority in November,” noting that Republicans “took healthcare away from millions of Americans to pay for tax cuts for the 1%.”
>That was last year, when congressional Republicans and Trump used the budget reconciliation process to pass their so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Between $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid over the next decade and failing to extend expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, the OBBBA is expected to strip healthcare coverage from up to 15 million Americans.
>While the impacts of the OBBBA will play out over years, already, “in red states and blue states alike, Republican healthcare cuts are hitting communities like a wrecking ball,” Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said last week, while releasing a related report with House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ).
>Wyden and Pallone found that over half of the people who reenrolled in an ACA plan this year have had to or plan to reduce spending on other essentials; at least 19 health facilities have closed across 11 states; and nearly 500 employees were laid off in four states because of the GOP’s healthcare cuts last year.
…
One proposal that the GOP considered but ultimately did not include in the OBBBA related to ACA cost-sharing reductions. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the specific policy considered last year would save $31 billion but leave 300,000 more Americans uninsured through 2034.
>Reporting emerged last week that House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) wants to bring back the push for that policy. It quickly spurred criticism, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) saying: “Republicans in Congress want to cut Americans’ healthcare to pay for more war in Iran. Let that sink in.”
>“Republicans ransacked $1 trillion from Medicaid, and then they more than doubled premiums for over 20 million Americans in order to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations,” Leslie Dach, chair of the advocacy group Protect Our Care, said in a statement last week. “Now, care for 15 million working Americans will be ripped away, nursing homes and hospitals are on the chopping block nationwide, and Americans are buried under skyrocketing healthcare hikes.”
>“But that’s not enough for Republicans who have been at war with working families’ healthcare for decades—now they want to slash healthcare even more to bankroll the war in the Middle East and to fund ICE, Trump’s unaccountable, lawless paramilitary force,” Dach continued, referring to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “The American people reject these Republican priorities and will make their voice known in November.”
>Axios reported Monday on Arrington’s preferred timeline for a new budget package: “60 to 90 days,” he said.
>Arrington is also eyeing some potential changes to Medicare, which provides health insurance coverage to Americans age 65 and older, according to Axios:
>* One, known as “site-neutral” payments, would equalize payment across hospital outpatient facilities and doctors’ offices. A second would crack down on what critics say is insurance company gaming of the Medicare Advantage system through “upcoding” of patients’ medical conditions.
* Arrington expressed skepticism that either would be included, saying they’d open up “a false narrative that we’re cutting Medicare.”
>As for Medicaid, one of the programs attacked by the OBBBA, Arrington told the outlet that there is hesitancy “to open that back up,” but some policies considered in 2025 could be revived.
Red state Americans will be hit the hardest, but it is what they keep voting for.
That’s not a harsh enough headline. They want people to not have health care, with or without a war on.
7nbelievable
I’d be more surprised if they didn’t do it rather than did, because trump…
And when that 200 bil is done with? What next? Because he clearly doesn’t give a damn about doing unpopular stuff in the run-up to mid-terms, maybe he’d be more cautious if he actually was worried, so i ask again, what next?
just gonna create more luigis
I can’t tell if they think they’re going to succeed at delaying or stealing the midterms
Or they’re in full panic mode trying to stop the bleeding from the arm they chopped off to own da libs
Congress can stop this nightmare at any time.
They choose not to.
They’ll say some shot like *you’ll get healthcare if you join the military*
Oil for the price of senior citizens and retired. Unbelievable
Trump needs that $200 billion for his massive, high tech military bunker under his big beautiful ballroom! Everybody knows the ballroom is being paid for by donations, right?
What a vile wretched group of so called representatives
So that we can serve, and fight the war of, Israel. A country with universal Healthcare, paid family leave and a bunch of other stuff we’re told is „too expensive“
This is them telling you who they are, conservative voters. You better pay attention.
If they don’t fund the war in Iran resulting in trillions in oil revenue for billionaires, they will give tax cuts worth billions to the billionaires
I feel like when the debt is 37 trillion dollars, we’re getting into territory where nothing matters
Kick the White House and both houses of Congress off their health care. Maybe cut off their pay as well. They are responsible for this economic mess.
This is your daily reminder that Israel has universal healthcare.
Israel first. If Americans don’t go in there and die for Israel’s geopolitical gain, what will happen? They’re gonna send IDF ground troops into Iran? No way. They’re not gonna sacrifice the chosen people when they can sacrifice Americans instead. Right?
Vote them out.
Let’s start with Congress. We should not be providing free Healthcare to these rich geriatric fucks.
Amerika first at its finest.
The ol’ kill more Americans so you can afford to kill more Iranians ploy – let’s see if works out for them
Forbes has Musk net worth at about 850 billion, extract the value from one pathetic wretch instead of of real people.
I’m sure Republicans are eager to volunteer to be among those cut. Is there a website they can go to to sign up for this?
Israel first…whose war is this and why are we in it=Bibi.
Cut the cord.
How pro life of them
„This war will require sacrifice to win; therefore, we are willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING that YOU own in order meet the objectives that we haven’t quite worked out yet. Don’t worry, you may suffer, but we will suffer less or not at all, and that’s what really matters.“ ~THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!
~Republicans, probably
These guys act and govern like there will never be another election.
„The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe, for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was one of them.“ 😂
They’ve put on a master class in “how to lose the mid terms”
I don’t think they are kicking people off healthcare to fund the war. They are using the war as an excuse to kick people off healthcare.
Why don’t we cut the healthcare to our representatives. I have heard their plan is pretty good
Republicans want to kill more people so they can kill more people.
It’s just an excuse. They want to cut spending on individuals (especially in ways accessible by poor people) and this is a convenient excuse.
They voted for this and these are the consequences that we are dealing with.
Biden’s proposed student loan forgiveness was $430B over 10 years. This stupid war is costing that in a month and no one wanted this.
The GOP has never and never will care about humanity. Ultra capitalism will do that. Humans are disposable to them. Same with Israel.
Make the American Oligarchs pay for it with taxes.
Yup that’s the GOP. Hell they wanted to cut healthcare just to give tax breaks to billionaires. So funding a war to distract from the pedophiles yeah that tracks
They don’t care about people at all. All they care about is money and power.
Cannot wait for the midterms
And with any luck, they’ll be red state trash that should’ve been thankful for their ACA Plan.
Kick 300,000 off healthcare to save $200,000,000,000 ? That suggests each of these people cost the healthcare system $666,667 each (unlikely), and taking it away would cost them their lives.
There are 924 bllionaires in the US. If we just took 1 Billion from each of them, we would have 924 billion (almost 5 x as much) and none of the billionaires would die (many wouldn’t even notice).
We need to end this bullshit now.
