    >Colorectal Cancer Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society recently called on all provinces to make the move as a growing number of people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer before the current routine screening age of 50.

    >It said people under 50 are two-to-two-and-a-half times more likely to be diagnosed with colorectal cancer than they were in previous generations.

This is very likely due to widespread inactive lifestyles combined with a poor diet that is high in processed food and low in fibre, leading to obesity and metabolic dysfunction. Changes in gut biome due to previous antibiotic misuse/over use is also implicated.

  3. This is great news. Note that the article states that the standard protocol will be used of a FIT test (the at-home stool sample collection) first, then a colonoscopy only if there are abnormal results. It’s not like everyone is getting a colonoscopy right away.

  4. That is still not young enough. Should be 40 at the higher end. I think 35 is the right age to start.

  5. Had my first at 36 cuz my grandpa died from it super young. Got polyps removed. Go for it homies, it’s really not that bad.

It is an empty promise from a shell of a government. If you don’t have a family doctor you will never have this recommended or get a referal. This government just got through a massive scandal where every family doctor in the province collectively signed a letter to the premier explaining how bad a job the CEO of Health PEI was doing and how she ruined recruitment and retention of family doctors by exploiting gaps in the physicians service agreement. She was fired. Her name is Melanie Fraser and is the most hated person on the island right now. She took our already poor family doctor situation and ruined it.

The only reason she was fired is because the premier just won a leadership race for the Progressive Conservatives to become leader after the previous leader resigned. This government barely has a mandate and is throwing everything at the wall in the hopes of distancing themselves from all the bullshit the previous leadership did. Here is the problem. The entire majority caucus of the PEI PC party is 19 people. 2 people changed and this government is acting like they didn’t know the previous people. It is still the exact same people. It is still the same corruption. It is still the same people trying to privatize our health care and blow up relationships with the doctors we have.
