Carney’s high popularity, especially coming off unpopular Trudeau years, seems to suggest otherwise. We don’t need another leader swimming against the current just because they’re the opposition (looking at you, Pierre).

    Sorry, Avi.

I also don’t think Canadians want or deserve Trudeau level immigration, further abuses within our refugee system by removing a first safe country provisions, or increasing the number of foreign students while reducing their tuition to the same rate as Canadian students.

The labour market is real. Tightening the market benefits Canadian workers. Workers of all types, but especially economically vulnerable and youth.

This is just one example, but a good one, of how out of touch Lewis is with much of his policy platform.

That, and his wing’s support for diving into foreign sectarian conflicts. These are inherently divisive, and shrink the pool of prospective supporters.

I’m actually pretty happy with carney. Former NDP voter myself but carney is getting things done in a time that is VERY challenging

    > following the U.S. into a future of wars, fossil fuels, austerity and job-killing generative AI.

Wars: By what metric is he saying we are doing this? Or is this just his way of saying I don’t like paying and equipping our military and its members?

Fossil Fuels: Oil and Natural Gas are not going anywhere and we rely on the money they generate to pay for the things we have in this country and in our provinces.

Austerity: Carney has literally proven he’s not aiming for austerity… He’s shifted spending and increased support and spending overall. Carney even cut the lowest tax bracket by 1% which affects all Canadians.

Generative AI: We’re literally getting a National AI strategy this year once the task force has completed its research and investigations on what Canada can do.

The hilarious part of all this is that Tommy Douglas was very much all about austerity and increasing taxes in order to pay for the services he created in Sask., **after** he balanced the budget and got rid of their massive debt.

Lewis sounds like the usual head in the clouds NDP person who believes everything will be paid for magically. **EVERY** single country that is more socialist than Canada has higher taxes and more evenly spread taxes across the board while their net benefactors (those who receive more than they pay) are significantly more than ours. Why? Because they pay more taxes and thus are able to offer more benefits and better social services to those who need them.

  5. If the NDP want some voter credibility, then they should focus on the actions that bring Canada to a more resilient, diversified and robust economy which includes new and better trading partners, more attention to the labour market, and more effort at public and communal infrastructure.

Any major change, as what Carney is trying to start, entails all kinds of risk balancing, and prioritizing certain projects for short-term movement. I want to hear what improvements the NDP can suggest, instead of criticising the policies as wrong, or insufficient, or misdirected. I want to know how the federal NDP will work with provincial NDP to move the country to a more unified and integrated economy.
