He wants to be a „beacon for the 99%“ while advocating for unrestricted immigration and the expansion of our already heavily abused refugee program by removing „first safe country“ protections, etc.

Pivot on that one point, prioritize Canadian workers of all types over cheap foreign labour, and I might listen.

Pivot on anti-resource development and I might vote.

Until then, Avi is whistling in the wind.

Lewis’s leadership is already so disgraced that two of the provincial NDP wings – in provinces that he needs to make inroads in to have any success – have already denounced him. The NDP just signed their death warrant by making this leadership selection. Just look at what happened when the UK Labour Party elected Corbyn – I can see something similar – leadership crisis/floor crossings/caucus revolt/attempted leadership coup within months because everyone knows Lewis is going to sink the ship for good.

  3. Nenshi is just getting his pre election loss excuses out there and hoping we ignore his terrible polling numbers before Lewis was elected

People need to realize when what should be left wing politicians start talking about centrism or engage in it, it’s a clear sign of controlled opposition

Ah, another thread where Conservatives and Liberals, who are led by leaders who agree on everything except the culture war, attempt to lecture progressives on how to be just like them. Brilliant.

Appreciate the notes folks, but I think we’re fine not being another neoliberal right of centre party. Cheers!

Nenshi would have a leg to stand on if he did…anything at this point.

He’s taking the do nothing Democrat approach and is likely sleepwalking into losing seats in the next election.

  7. I predicted the Provincial parties would distance themselves following an Avi Lewis election, and I recall being down voted for that.

BC will too, Eby just has more class not to do it today, and, he’s in power, something Lewis will never taste.

  8. I honestly would not be surprised if we see at least one or two more NDP floor crossing to the Liberals as a consequence. I feel like Lewis’s victory is going to create a big schism between the West Coast and activist sides of the party that might be tough to mitigate.

The activist side of the party is popular with the NDP’s membership, but I think they’re a lot more alienating to the general electorate and most of the sitting MPs within the party.  The West Coast side of the party and most of the federal MPs likely still don’t have warm feeling towards Lewis & Klein after the leap manifesto and it’s impact on the federal party’s accessibility in Western Canada at the time etc.

  9. With friends like these, who need enemies?

Provincial NDP wings rushing to declare distance from the federal NDP Leader are defining him, before he even gets a chance to define himself.

He’s absolutely right. The western parties will have to break away if they want to maintain any chance at elect ability in those provinces. Lewis will tank them all if not.
