    What is the source?

Because Brazil and Argentina „standalone bidet“ are not the most common.

The most common is toilet paper only (about 75% on Brazil). The rest ~25%, are handheld bidet. Do not have the data for Argentina.

Standalone bidet is rare, usually for rich houses a long time ago.

Source: I grew up in Argentina and Brazil.

And people want unity in the world, then we don’t have consensus how to wipe ass yet.

  3. Turkey (and probably some others in light green) doesn’t have handheld sprays at all. They have the bidet integrated into the toilet itself, similar to Japan, but not electronic.

My first night out of my TP only country, I showered with the bidet! This was in a tiny hotel room in Phnom Penh, me being so excited to get out into the city and the shower head out of order, so I just assumed the lower shower head must be what I should be using.

As someone who grew up with US toilet paper, it was a shock travelling overseas. But I’m a firm believer in the bum gun and the Japanese toilet. So clean I’m whistling Dixie after using them.

I wonder if this has some connection to weather, before modern plumbing, if you live somewhere where the water freezes, you are not going to want to use that. Alternatives are much warmer. But it you live somewhere where the water does not usually freeze? Obviously it is not just that (hello Finland) but it is interesting to see that there is a band of water users around about the equator region in Africa and Asia

Is there a correlation between anal hygiene methods and the popularity of anal sex in said county? Asking for a friend.

Korea is primarily tp. Electronic bidets exist but they’re very rare

  9. Hungary mixed? I can’t remember ever seeing a bidet in this country. Or maybe I just don’t realize what mixed is supposed to mean.

It’s disgusting to know that people from so-called developed nations use just toilet paper. This is an abomination! You’re just spreading feces along your bum, not really cleaning it. I’ve heard from South American friends that they would ask Euro ladies to have a proper shower before making love, because of this poor hygiene.

    Unthinkable to me, completely uncivilized

  11. See map, see my country is wrong. Doubt all the info on the map.

At least both Chile and Brazil are wrong, or not accurate.

  12. France transition is over. Almost no one have a bidet now. Our grand-parents are se last generation who used by default a bidet.

  13. What is the source of this map? .You are saying Bangladesh and Pakistan uses bum gun but not India , it is more common thing in India more than these two countries. Most people in india i know use bum guns.

    “Dominant Anal hygiene” isn’t a sentence I expected on Map Porn…oh wait…

Even in Japan, at least in school toilets, there are no bidets or washlets; only toilet paper is provided.

I don’t think the map is very accurate. I have lived in France, Greece and Romania for longer periods of time. All three countries were premodiatley TP. I wish Romania had bidets tho. I was living in a poor rural area, sewer was open and went tho the garden and the tp needed to go in the trash can.

  17. A lot of it depends on the sewer system too, some places didn’t have sewage systems in place that could handle toilet paper so bidets were both easier to implement and arguably better from a hygiene standpoint.

  18. As a Spaniard, I have to say that bidets have become rarer with time as people actually uninstall them when remodeling or updating their bathrooms. Here, bidets are associated with feminine hygiene, so most people just use toilet paper.

  19. people complaining about toilet paper clearly aren’t using it right, the best system is a mixture of both

what’s concerning is the amount of people who rely too heavily on a bidet yet think they’re clean 🤮 like spraying the exterior of a car with a hose & thinking it’s washed

I think there’s only a small percentage of Chinese households using the Japanese toilets that wash your ass, most people still use toilet paper, but nowadays many ladies use wet toilet paper

  21. Spain barely has bidets and when they do they are for vaginal cleansing (water comes from the side), not asshole (water comes from the bottom).

  22. Filipino here. Basically it’s either powerwash my ass with bidet or splash with water with a tabo if no bidet, then scrub with soap, then wash again with bidet/tabo, then wipe up with bathroom tissue. Can’t imagine any way that’s cleaner?

Not sure about other pinoys, but I always wipe with a tissue after a bidet so it’s dry.

We also shower here nearly everyday and probably more than once. It’s hot and humid and polluted and commuting is almost hell, so yeah…gotta be clean for our sanity.

  23. romania is transitioning TO toiletpaper. from what you ask? leaves. from leaves. source: I wiped my ass with leaves when i was a kid.
