This one always surprises me. Even countries like Turkey and Greece correspond, latitude-wise, to more northern parts of the USA.

If the Gulf Stream was to disappear… Ice Age Europe, not the fun kind either.

  4. They’re already at the same latitude as Europe (mostly).

This map also presents them at the same longitude.

  5. Paris is at 48 degrees north and America northern border is at 49 so map is wrong.

My bedroom’s latitude (where I’m doomscrolling right now on this fine Sunday morning) lies directly east of Innertalling Island, Nunavut. This latitude also lies somewhere between Thorne Bay and Naukati Bay in Alaska.

That blows my mind, given that I’m in Scotland. Yes, the weather here is hardly tropical, but it’s nowhere near as bitterly cold as Nunavut or Alaska.

  7. While it’s surprising, how warm Europe is due to its latitude, I think not enough people are talking about how really **hot AND sunny** most parts of the United States are between Spring and Autumn when compared to Europe which is no wonder due to the high sun angle.

(Edit: Just as a reference: Seattle has more yearly sunshine hours than almost the whole Central and Northern part of Europe, New York City has nearly the same sunshine hours as some parts of the mediterranean + similar summer temperatures.)

Europe can thank the gulf stream. If climate change alters that things are going to be different for them but worse.

Crazy the difference in temps during winter in central France compared to Southern Québec which is the same latitude
