Anyone who hates illegal tariffs and war should vote for Democrats next election.

  2. Well the masked paramilitary thugs grabbing up anyone they want sure can’t be helping.

Nobody wants to come to the US anymore and no one can blame them.

Billionaires are the cause and problem of where society finds itself. You‘

They’re so obsessed with trying to distract from the fact that they are pedophiles they are starting chaos and war around the world. But, they still need to use our labor and bodies to carry out those most final touches.

Nice to see a news story acknowledging the real reasons for our decisions to not visit, instead of the ‚high US dollar“. I’m probably a petty, spiteful bastard, but I’ll never set foot down there again regardless of who wins the coming midterms, and following presidential election, I live an hour from the border, and grew up camping in New England, and skiing at Sugarloaf Me. since I was wee high. Fuck ‚em. „Angered by Donald Trump’s hefty tariffs and **annexation threats** – and compounded by fears of border detentions and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crackdowns – Canadians have stayed away, refusing to spend their hard-earned dollars in local border towns like Lewiston.:

  5. One of the many reasons Elise Stefanik essentially quit. She destroyed the upstate New York economy by voting MAGA.

  6. Canadian here, and I was planning lots of travel in the USA over the next couple years. Well it is now all off we are going to the EU, fuck the USA and Donald Trump he is so unhinged and irrational you can not ever risk going to the USA again he may just decide to close the boarder trapping you there or may decide to to charge a crazy boarder crossing fee to get back home or send you to some third country just because he can. The USA use to stand for law and democracy it stands for nothing now but graft and corruption. The body decomposes from the head and the USA is decomposing quickly now. No Canadian has any reason to ever go back to the USA the country is failing and broken and I don’t ever see it ever being fixed again. The USA can never be trusted again it voted for that idiot not once but twice, even after they saw what a disaster of stupidity he was the first time.

Yes. Annexation threats, irrational trade war, the general fascism and brutal ICE practices (am not white) keep me away.

I wouldn’t come here either. As a utterly disappointed American I am glad to see Canadians standing up for what they believe in.

I personally really like New York state, but I can find plenty of other places to go until things change in the WH.

In Michigan, Canadians would come for shopping, tourism, visits to friends and family, etc., and it was very much a symbiotic relationship. People in this state knew nothing different and I think I was in my 20s when I realized that Mr. Dress-Up and the Friendly Giant were Canadian shows.

Now, I just don’t see Ontario plates like we saw two years ago even, and businesses in my resort town area talk about how long-standing Canadian patrons aren’t coming, people who winter in Florida talk about Canadian owned properties are being sold, and they’re just not coming to Michigan, and yes, that’s simplistically a financial hit.

But this is like a personal relationship where one party betrayed the other. There is justifiable anger and resentment, and they’re moving on. If someday the US can come to grips with what they’ve done, correct course, and try to make amends, there may be a lengthy path to civility. But it’s never getting back to what it was. Never. And it’s easy to think there is one person to blame, but he was elected, and supported by others who were elected. Elections have consequences. Choices and ramifications.

God’s speed to Canada. I’m just hoping that they’d want Michigan in the divorce.

Why would you visit the US as a Canadian? Genuinely?

You could end up in trapped in ICE custody despite your best efforts to have the proper paperwork.

It’s not worth it. This is not a country that can be trusted.

  12. I don’t quite understand Canadians who still travel to the U.S. without a specific reason, like visiting relatives or attending a funeral. After all the insults and threats from Trump and his cronies, everything seems to argue against traveling to the U.S. Everyone should do as they please, but I used to go on vacation to America quite often; now, however, I’ll be choosing destinations other than America for my future trips. I also hope that as few soccer fans as possible travel to the World Cup in America. There are already enough reports in the European media painting a very negative picture of the potential problems foreigners might face in America.

  13. I just read a Facebook post from some old highschool friends bashing Carney. One even called for civil war in Canada. They were not the brightest.

News flash: if you shit all over your close friend, they won’t be a friend anymore.

Our family (USA, near the border) takes a few vacations a year. We stopped vacationing in the US and now go to Ontario a few times a year. Thanks for having us and sorry about our political leadership.

I don’t think I’m ever going back to the US. A child rapist is president and he still has support. Even when he’s gone there are so many people who don’t care that he raped kids. We are not alike. Americans are disgusting, not all of them obviously, but too many of them for me to want to visit. Fuck that. Repulsive.

I have no plans to ever visit the United States again. I feel bad for my American friends, but as a Canadian, I will never, ever trust the American government again. That ship has sailed.

  18. My family was one of so nany that would make the trip to Niagara Falls, NY. It was a 90 minute drive. We’d hit up the Ground Round at Military Rd. Buy clothes, music, etc. Hell we got our first NES there. We’d stay at the Holiday Inn in beautiful Grand Island. Spend lots of money and have lots of fun there. Now I cant be bothered. Upstate NY is pretty red. They voted for this and now they must reap what they’ve sewn. Hopefully there is a lot of learning happening, but judging by the one Trumper in the article, they won’t. You shot the golden goose and now have nothing to show for it.

    Canadian here.

Used to head south of the border on vacation regularly. Was in Washington state summer before Trump trade war. Regular visitor to PNW and California. Loved it.

Was planning Oregon Coast and a concert ticket in Vegas. These and all future plans to visit states scrubbed.

Went to Mexico City this year ( which is quite awesome!). Maybe Europe next year.

Americans have to understand how angry we are over the poor decisions they’ve made. And i mean both sides. You either supported Trump or you supported someone incapable of stopping him. You’ve rinsed it. You’re done.

You can look to Hungarians or North Koreans to support your tourism now. Look around. Your friends list is shrinking fast.

  20. I use to cross into the states multiple times a year and often would plan vacations in various parts of America since it’s a lot easier than taking intercontinental flights to leave the country. I now find myself thinking I never want to step foot in the US again. Canada got singled out as some sort of hostile enemy basically the moment he stepped foot into office. We have been nothing but supportive and friendly to America for the better part of a century. Repeated calls for annexation (even in jest), calling our leaders governors, American media framing us as the bad guys, many US citizens joking/belittling us about said 51st state comments or playing it off as a joke and actively trying to threaten us with tariffs and various deals while we look for other more realizable nations for trade partnerships.

I want absolutely nothing to do with the states anymore. I’d much rather deal with unending hardships than ever be an American. It’s been hard to avoid American made goods as so many huge American businesses over the last few decades have silently purchased Canadians brands and they do everything they can to try to pretend to be still be Canadian. Some concessions are made because not everything has viable alternatives at the moment. I can’t speak for everyone but this anger will be here to stay for quite some time if not indefinitely for many of us.

I cancelled all my US trips. Sad because I loved taking my son to watch Mariners games. Now I spend the money saved and fly right over the Pedo country to Mexico. Mexicans love Canadians and we have a mutual hatred for America.

  22. ZippyPantsB on

According to the current US government Canadians have been “ripping off” the USA for centuries, so this must come as a huge relief for those border states

  23. Prior_Implement_9279 on

Canadians are some of the friendliest people in the world until you piss us off… then we become incredibly petty and spiteful.

  24. Dry_Gur9217 on

I just wish every American read this article. This is deep, emotional, generational and those business owners will unfortunately feel this decline for the remainder of their income until their business closes. I hope Americans realize Canada isn’t alone in these feelings. I travel often and the sentiment towards America is universal. You…, are… not…. liked. You are not the envy of the world. You are not trusted, you are not the beacon of pride you once were. You are tarnished and have no one but yourself to blame. These are the consequences and own them and I don’t think you will ever recover from what you’ve done to your allies, your neighbors, your friends.

I can only imagine that, as a Canadian, I would be scared to death of visiting the US.
