  1. In the Senate, yes, but not the House. At least, that’s the last I heard.

  2. TheSwampTramp on

No, because *no one* wins a government shutdown and if we had any sense we’d make it so Congress itself didn’t get paid for not doing its job during the shutdown, too.

  3. bensquirrel on

Not when the House rejects it. Even then I’m not sure much was accomplished.

They haven’t completely rolled over yet, so I’m pleasantly surprised. They’ve managed to allow the infighting amongst republicans to take center stage today. I don’t see a world where the republicans cave on ICE reforms so this is probably as good as it gets. That said, it’s gonna be hard to say either side is a winner when this is all said and done. It’s more of a battle to see who is a bigger loser.

  5. Bigbrown545 on

On paper, I guess. But there’s no real value in the victory. ICE is already heavily funded through 2029 and Republicans are likely not going to make any significant reforms.

  6. House Republicans just handed Democrats the victory. People wanted this over, Republicans are going to get the blame for failing to end the shutdown. Real stupid considering the midterms are in 7 months.

I guess rising inflation, unemployment and a stupid war weren’t enough for Republicans.

It’s too early to call this a win for either side. This still needs to go to the Republican control House and fr this t be signed into law. I doubt that Trump will sign this and I don’t know if their are enough votes in the Senate to counter that veto.

House Republicans appear to have decided that they need to be even more insane, so yes.

  9. People are working without getting paid by our own government. No, we are not winning.

  10. It’s not a „victory“ until it ends. Republicans have taken ownership of the shutdown, but Democrats still have plenty of opportunity to completely cave and give up with gaining anything.

The Republicans could careless about the American people it’s all a game Trump knew Johnson wouldn’t bring it to the floor you see Russ Vought is still trying to find ways to antagonize our federal workforce so 500 has quit he is doing it behind the scenes

Give it a few hours. Chuck and Hakeem will cave. 2 steps forward, 10 steps backward and give away the farm. (I really hope I’m wrong)

  13. Punning_Man on

Don’t worry they have time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as they always do. #shumerdoomer

  14. Too bad it’s at the expense of Americans. Fuck the GOP, but this isn’t a win for the average American

This failed on the orders of Trump. Now, he can issue a presidential proclamation and illegally pay the TSA workers, setting a precedent for ever more power being gobbled up by the executive and the congress ceding its power.

  16. It isn’t over yet, sadly, but if nothing else they forced a victory of a kind. We’ll see if they retain it.

I mean if you follow that narrative I guess but what did they accomplish? Maybe ICE will have to wear masks and body cams? They should be fighting to break DHS apart and dissolve it. We are on the event horizon of an authoritarian take over and DHS is being weaponized against us. Except for the TSA they simply ineffective and waste of money

When you think about it, there were no reforms to ice, and ice will eventually get funded. So the initiative did fail but also democrats did everything within their power and did not buckle.

But also, here comes the house to stop this outcome. Shutdown’s still going, fight’s still on.

  19. How many days has the government been fully open and not „sent home for vacation by fruity man“ etc.

  20. AnonAmbientLight on

They won the last one too.

They’ve been winning government shutdown fights.

Every time Republicans do a shutdown (basically every time Republicans have the House) Democrats win on policy and messaging generally.

  21. Funny-Company4274 on

I hope they realize 1 3pt shot won’t win the game. Quit celebrating and get back to work

  22. blackmobius on

Dems passed a vote without ice funding, that was good enough

The ones that shot down the deal was house republicans. And they likely did so because Trump wants his save act to be voted on or he wont do anything else. His words. He will lame duck himself because congress wont do it

  23. Zealousideal-Let-104 on

    No, both parties caved.

The only winners are the people that will get paid again.

  24. MarcheMuldDerevi on

Someone check on Schumer. We have to make sure he doesn’t find a way to blow it

  25. eduardonachosupremo on

Nobody is winning a goddamn thing right now. America is an unfixable mess and they’re all to blame. The media is also complicit and won’t say something like that because they want that cash flow no matter how bad things get.

  26. Wow Chuck, look at what happens when you don’t cave like a complete chickenshit.

  27. Dismal-Sail1027 on

Two months before the election, Mango Mussolini will release another Ai video of him dumping feces on American citizens. His support will rally because people think he’s “so funny.” The man defies logic.

Agree to disagree is the calling card of alternative facts idiots. You can’t just say you disagree with facts. Only the uneducated MAGA believe this BS. So 1/3 of the dumbasses in America.

“Agree to disagree that the earth is round.”

  29. If you think the democrats have won you don’t know Chuck Schumer. I’ve seen this man snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

„Trump caves to Democrat’s pressure, pays TSA“

But Democrats have to take the win and run with it, or it’s worthless.
