> James Talarico, the Texas Democratic state representative and Presbyterian seminarian, has said he forgives Pete Hegseth’s pastor for praying for his death. On Tuesday, Texas’s popular Democratic nominee for a US Senate seat pushed back against comments from Brooks Potteiger, the defense secretary’s closest spiritual adviser, who said: “We want him crucified with Christ.”
Somebody’s been mixing meth into the sacramental wine. This is incredibly demented … but I suppose typical.
And Talarico now decisively won the ideological conflict here. Because now he represents actual Christianity, and the Hegseth pastor guy represents hatred and odium and the corruption of ‚Christian‘ Nationalism.
Those MAGAt pastors are trying their best to serve two masters.
This particular one is also playing with stochastic terrorism with his inflammatory comments.
“He was the bigger person? Welp, got no choice but to vote against him, I guess.” – half or more of Texas voters, probably, if past is any prologue.
Before you downvote, remember the famous Maya Angelou quote.
Can’t spell Evangelical without Evil.
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
― Mahatma Gandhi (maybe)
„We want him crucified with Christ“ has to be the most ironic statement from a supposed christian lol
It has been many years since I attended mass but I don’t remember the „Praying for other people’s death“ part of it? I don’t think Christians are supposed to do that.
I don’t know what religion the „murder everyone“ evangelical guy is but he is most certainly not any type of modern Christian, More like the opposite of Christ.
Sure they used to do that stuff back in ancient times but those people were savages and had yet to even master weekly bathing let alone read the book.
there is nothing Christian about Christian nationalism. Jesus did not believe in using force to impose his views. Jesus was anti-government, not pro-war, pro-hate, an anti-immigrant.
His comment is both sincerely about his actual faith and also a wonderful troll move. This guy has grown on me, I’m hoping his political career really takes off
Which is exactly what Jesus would do.
Turning the other cheek
Wild these idiots still think they’re actually Christians. Main reason why so many ppl like me and my entire family have left organized religion behind completely.
Anyone else he’s like soft JFKish? Charisma amd class but no history of flagrent adultery.
That pastor needs jesus
Isn’t that a death threat? Why no legal action?
I do kinda like that we have an openly evil pastor. Kinda makes things a bit more star wars
I like him, if i was him though, I’d be putting out that paragraph specifying that i don’t feel suicidal, i know how to swim etc…
Talarico for the win!
When I went to a Southern Baptist church for the first and only time, I was treated like „boy, you know you don’t belong here“ kind of attitude (I’m not white). And that stuck with me ever since. I’m no longer a Christian, but the thought that Christ would approve of turning *anyone* away from His House and His love is absolutely abhorrent. There’s no hate like Christian Love resonates with me.
This just in, Talarico is apparently so pious that his death would help resolve our sins.
Turnin the other cheek eh? Who does he think he is, a follower of Christ or something? Pfft, wish them death already Mr I love Jesus.
American Christianity is a plague, this is what it means to live your faith. Can’t wait to see him do greater things
This is the way. There will be more.
Hegseth’s pastor prayed for a dude’s death? Still convinced these clowns worship the devil and not God or Jesus.
Yes its all fun and games until you realize this is a dogwhistle for christian extremists to murder a senate candidate because he threatens the GOP monopoly on „good Christian morals“.
12 weeks ago these people were crucifying liberals for *not denouncing* the assasination of Charlie Kirk.
Here you are, calling for the assasination of Talarico
Good move on Talarico’s part, but there’s also room to make an issue of a pastor calling for someone’s death. And tie Hegseth to that and his pastor.
What version of the Gospels are these people reading?
Talarico showing us how to Christian.
Pastor Brooks Potteiger is the name of that person btw
How many of these morons have actually read the bible?
Man, they are really trying to position this guy…
Pete Hegseth may be the most outwardly bloodthirsty „Christian“ we’ve ever seen. They want the Ten Commandments in schools but can’t even abide by the main one… And they see no contradiction, because it was never about what Jesus said; it was just about taking power over others. According to their own wacky worldviews, they are possessed by the devil.
„Pray for an opponent’s death“ – are we back at witchcraft, my lord?
edit:
This is a christian.
So we summon Satan, or one of his infernal horde?
Lay out pentagrams with carpenter’s nails?
Talarico appears to be a true Christian. If anybody wants a real-world example of Christianity, it’s him.
Id vote for this guy.
When an actual Christian has to deal with the fake, Republican kind of Christian.
I’m not particularly religious, but I find it absolutely fascinating how much Talarico has in common with Jesus Christ as a symbolic figure. A charismatic guy from humble origins who speaks truth to power of a state religion that enables corruption and greed and punches down on the most vulnerable. And just like Jesus, he gets death threats and called a heretic. It feels like a modern rewrite of the same story. Really, I think it says a lot about how little human psychology has changed in the 2,000 years since the bible was written.
American Christianity is just so…disturbing. But then, so is American capitalism, democracy, militarism, and gun worship. I don’t even know what we — the rest of the world — are supposed to do with this *insane titan* that is America, because T is just a symptom. Seriously, *how are sane nations supposed to coexist with American culture?!* Ugh, sorry; rant over. Kooky pastor, etc. etc., nothing to see here.
James Talarico is what MAGA tries and fails to portray Charlie Kirk as.
That’s the difference between us and them, between those who follow Christ and those who use his name in vain for political gain. Talarico doesn’t harbor ill will towards those who want him dead. When he’s insulted, he turns the other cheek so his enemies can slap it as well, then prays for their forgiveness. This is what Christian leadership looks like. Campaign for the forgotten, for the lesser-than, for the marginalized. Unto the least of these my brethren, you have done unto me. Make that the fucking point of all of this. Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for all of us, not just one party, and not just for the one percent.
When that fat fuck dies I will have NO decorum
Remember when Obama’s pastor said „god damn America“ during a sermon and the right essentially wanted them all lynched?
