Holy shit its like the UN *wants* Trump to abandon the UN and start his own parallel organization.

Every civilization that had ever existed held slaves! The UK and the USA actually led the world, spent treasure and lives to eradicate slavery. Stop the nonesense.
So they want African tribes to pay reparations to the other tribes they hunted and sold into the slave trade?
What a load of nonsense, slavery was and sadly still is a global phenomenon, are we going to get reperations for the Romans pillaging half of Europe, or the barbary states that raided and plundered European coasts, perhaps the Swedes owe me some money for the Viking raids, maybe Mongolia should pay back half the world too, who is Mali going to give money to? or the numerous other African states that at times willingly participated in the trade, might even have to get some Native Americans over here, maybe the Bhutanese too.
Obviously doesn’t make slavery ok, but I’m not going to pay for the sins of people who happened to be on the same soil as me many years ago, hell a vast majority of Europeans during those times couldn’t even vote (both men and women).
I’m happy to support destitute countries simply because it’s the morally right thing to do, to try and help others out of poverty and sickness and the fact that the world would be a better place if everywhere was more stable and prosperous, but I’m not going to give a single penny because people feel I owe them anything due to historical reaons.
Saudi is actively using slave labour in the lord’s year of 2026. Are they being held accountable too or is this based on vibes only?
I also want reparations from nordic countries who pillaged, raped, and enslaved my ancestors please. 5 million USD is enough. Actually, „5 million is a nightmare“, I’ll take 10 million please.

People do realize that UN general assembly resolutions are non-binding right? Only the UN security council can issue binding decisions.
As long as you have more than half the votes a resolution is passed. Many UN general assembly resolutions are just a group of member countries circle jerking each other to create whatever resolution they want.

Slavery was almost practised by most civilizations in the past and even the Africans were involved in catching the slaves to export. It made me confused about who should be paying who?
Also in terms of death tolls, the famines that happened in China under Mao and Russia under Lenin are far deadlier, even more than the WW2 casualties. I suggest reparations also to the survivors and their descendants by their governments too.
Mongolia also should do reparations to most Asian countries. The Genghis Khan invasion in the past was just historically so wrong and deadly. So many people were slaughtered and Mongolia now is sitting there like nothing happened.
Look what was done in the past was abhorrent but I don’t owe anyone shit for what my ancestors may have done nor do I owe anyone a dime for something I myself haven’t done. Stuff like this is why the west is shifting further to the right politically.

Votes like this are exactly why even as a left leaning person, I am against the idea of any sort of global government and prefer to have stronger local governance compared to national governance. Everything I have seen in the last couple decades of me being an adult has proven that people who are not close to you will gladly take from and oppress you for their own benefit. At the local level, it is more difficult to get away with that.
Slavery is actually a great example of that very issue. People from abroad enslaved those far from and different from themselves.
With that said, they can kick rocks because this isn’t about slavery at all. This is merely a guilt trip move to try and get people far from themselves to give up resources for their own benefit. It’s the same old story.
I look forward to the various ethnic groups in west africa paying reparations to each other for their centuries of selling their neighbors to their other neighbors and/or those foreign guys.
