It’s honestly the most likely option for a new oil pipeline. When we have staunch opposition in the neighboring province and C69 still in place I don’t see an interprovincial pipeline happening any time soon.
Alberta won’t hold up a pipeline heading south and it’s an easy sell to the US as they can claim it will bring down fuel prices.
It’s ironic we will end up more dependent on the US for our largest export than before the trade war but don’t see another option. Unfortunately this will bring Alberta even closer to the US than before, if it’s another 1M/Day pipeline the level that Alberta will be dependent on the US will be absolutely extreme.
This has always been the best option.
Americans, it appears, have little expectation that the obvious and significant liabilities will be reconciled by either industry or government, while most Canadians insist on it.
Give them what they want.
This is probably the best idea. The RoC hates building pipelines but the US is much more business friendly. Similar to AB really
I’ve been generally supportive of the pipeline, but I am only supportive of one or two being built to end our reliance on exporting to the United States. Personally, I am not in favour of significant oil and gas expansion, but we have a lot of room to diversify our markets and to make us less reliant on the United States for our economic well being. Furthermore, there are strong geopolitical arguments to be made for expanding oil and gas infrastructure: if we can reduce American and Russian exports of oil and gas in favour of our own, we can work towards reducing some of the power of belligerent super powers who are completely intransigent about engaging in an energy transition. Thus, in no way shape or form do I think we should ever build more pipelines down south; it would be the quickest way to lose support for pipelines and would be counterintuitive to the country’s goal of becoming less reliant on the US.
They already do. Becoming even more dependent on them is self sabotage. Clearly learned nothing in the past year and a half.
Hahahaha. Foot stomping gimme a west coast pipeline biotch has realized that there are a number of logistical and geological reasons that is problematic and not just because of lefties. So she bends over for the US owned oil companies‘ interests.
She’s the worst.
