Secrecy surrounding the first iteration of the Act is how we got into this mess. Continued secrecy around the amendments is not going to end well.
If you insist on conducting negotiations in secret, one can only assume that you are trying to hide something. Let the people know what your are doing and give them a chance to have input. Surely that’s not too much to ask.
This government is one of the least transparent governments we have ever seen in BC and it’s resulting in an absolute mess.
I give it 5 more years and all governments will drop UNDRIP related laws due to these issues and all FNs are just agglomerated with the provinces
keep voting morons into gov, BC. Well done.
Why is the law society commenting? Clearly the province did not understand what it was doing with DRIPA. They should be able to change the law if its leading to unintended outcomes.
The also said they could expedite the change process provided they sign an NDA.
Basically, it’s to weaken the agreement because First Nations rights interfere with economic plans.
“The Law Society of British Columbia has decried Eby’s intent to change the legislation in response to court rulings. In a statement released in February, the group said “politicians must take great care when commenting on judicial decisions and must avoid asserting or implying that courts are not properly playing their role.” Doing so, the group said, decreases confidence in the justice system.”
I believe the courts themselves decrease confidence in the justice system.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So what they said wouldn’t ever happen, happened
😂
I support Eby on this.
People are quick to hate on Eby and for a variety of reasons they should, but I agree with his policy on housing and the actions he has done towards it.
And the other thing I agree with is this. DRIPA needs to be weakened. The first nations have too much control and it needs to be balanced.
I also have an issue the current system of who is legally a first nation. A lot of Canadians have first nations blood in our bloodline but we do not fit the „legal definition“ and so we do not have any say in this? **And in 100 years most of us will have first nations blood in our ancestry.** So definitions need to change to start including more of the current population.
None of this should be confidential – this is the problem
Canada is going to have to deal with all these issues once and for all. But nobody has the balls to do it. The first nations population is growing quickly, and they need more and more land.
Activist Eby would do to present day Eby what James Kirk would do to William Shatner.
Eby is a disappointment on so many levels.
