  1. Kind of ironic that we are going to end up even more dependent on the US for our largest export (by huge margins) than before Trump started this trade war.

We need to sell more to other people, in percentage terms. In order to sell more to other people in percentage terms, you can’t increase the percentage being sold to the U.S. The government is incongruent.

  3. We should make it a condition for extending CUSMA and reducing tariffs at minimum. We are at a strong negotiation position thanks to the Americans Iranian invasion. I think we should be milking it.

Corporations will do their damndest to exploit our resources and concentrate them just to the point where it is profitable to ship to other countries for refinement. We do it with oil, mining, lumber and agriculture.

Let’s get it done. As long as the Canadian oil sands remains Canadian owned and operated which it has become Canadianized with the rounds of consolidation, the more dependent the Americans are on energy the more we prosper and have cards to play in a relationship that is always like being next to Rome.

If you support the Paris Treaty you understand that we are not responsible for the emissions of the oil sands as a ton of carbon is needed to build the electrified world. There is no future without physically building the bridge to it.

Our side is already built. We should encroauge the US to finish thier side as the costs are low for us, and it’s unlikely we build our own new pipelines at this stage.

The only risk is it reduces the impetus for our own pipeline but by having the US build it, we reduce our capital exposure, avoid potential misallocation of capital and stranded assets. This is traded against increased flows and exposure to the US market. But as I set out above the chances of us building our own were low anyways.
