This feels pointless if they’re going to just let deeply misogynistic religions go unchallenged.
The only thing that can really be done by government is to reinvest in community and particularly third spaces. Fat chance of that happening.

By protect, it means ban them from being able to see content they don’t approve of. Perhaps instead provide an alternative model of masculine role model for these lost young men.
Push for a higher percentage of male teachers. Make life affordable and paternity pay more accessible, so fathers are a larger part of the kids life and families stay together.

The ‚toxic masculinity‘ bashing message that seems so prevalent throughout culture must be addressed. It is doing more harm than good. Because those lacking nuance, self reflection, or simply too young to understand it simply take it as a personal attack. Sending them into Tate and co’s grubby hands.
Maybe start addressing the reasons that young men start looking to these sort of people rather than start trying to hyperobserve them to report them for „toxic masculinity“ or accuse them of being mysoginists.

Almost a win, but not quite. Ofcom are not the people who should be solving this problem, it’s much deeper than that. Making it harder to watch the content is a low effort, low value solution.

What a lot of people seem to miss when talking about this is that its the obsession with masculinity that’s a big part of the problem.
The other piece is socialisation. Our country and culture a system that teaches and incentivises various beliefs and behaviours.
What we’re seeing with the manosphere is extreme, but its not new.
Stopping people from seeing content won’t impact the wider cultural apparatus that disseminates the belief that men and women are inherently different and that men should broadly be in charge of most things.

The irony of this all is genz and the younger generations are way less misogynistic then the previous generations it is just the message is just more prolific. Men of genz and younger and more liberal than the older generations. This is sensationalism blaming the patriarchal attitudes of before on the generation of men the most disenfranchised its silly. The core root of the problem is patriarchal values and wealth inequality it is not the influencers who created this they are just echo chambers of a existing system of morality.
I saw an interesting snippet from a panel earlier. A very erudite chap made the point that it’s not the ideology espoused by manosphere influencers that’s attracting young men and boys – that’s basically immaterial. It’s the attraction of becoming part of a club or community. So the key is providing them with an alternative community they can relate to, which isn’t necessarily just a big homogenous blob of “reasonable, moderate-to-liberal, well-adjusted, non-misogynistic men and women”. By all means challenge manosphere views too (as they’re pretty abhorrent), but it would be helpful to also create communities for men where the positive aspects of masculinity can be celebrated, as distinct from femininity.

Young boys mustn’t be exposed to views or act out in ways that middle aged women disapprove of, while young girls must be empowered to challenge the outdated and inherently sexist judgement of middle aged men and be free to push the envelope of acceptable behaviour without criticism.
