  1. **In Brief:**

    * Canada has become a haven for cross-border criminals and terrorists due to institutional weaknesses and permissive policies.
    * Three recent cases: Mehdi Hijaouy, implicated in international fraud; Ryan Wedding, allegedly involved in a Sinaloa cartel-linked drug trafficking operation; and Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, accused of planning an ISIS-inspired attack.
    * In each case, Canada served as a refuge, transit point, or preparation ground, even if not the final target.
    * Canada needs tighter coordination between various agencies, including border control, immigration, and financial intelligence, and must proactively address suspicious activities to prevent further exploitation.
    * A more disciplined approach to reading warning signs like suspicious mobility and fraud exposure is also needed.

By this articles definitions and examples, every country is in fact a safe haven for them.

  3. I don’t trust reporting from this site. Right wing news sources and their scare tactics always used as an excuse to take away rights. Why are all the neoconservatives leaning into fascism

A piece I’ve come to be focused on is the asylum process. We seem to have the same issue as the US in that people can simply say the fear for their safety and get a temporary refugee status while they wait for a court date 1.5-3 years in the future. Seeing stories like Saskatchewan having a 300% increase in asylum claims after the government cut student visas, or having lived experiences as an ER nurse caring for patients funded by our taxpayer dollars on frankly silly claims (like escaping a gang in Germany, or fleeing transphobia in England), show the abuse this system can have.

Realistically we have two options. We can either beef up funding for the refugee system so refugees can have their day in court much sooner so we can kick out those on false claims. I personally support that solution as a globalist liberal but acknowledge is a costly endeavor that leads to almost no tangible benefits to Canada. Or we take advantage of our geographic location and tell people to wait in another country and only after approval will we accept them based on our capacity, similar to the EU’s new policy.

But accepting everyone and then getting absurd stories in CBC like ‘This family came from India and waited two years for their refugee court hearing. The judge said their claim was faulty and is deporting them, but isn’t it inhumane to kick someone out after they’ve lived here for 2 years?!’ just doesn’t seem like a feasible way to go forward.

It’s like we are an alien species that doesn’t know that lying is even a possibility. That’s why we don’t have the laws or enforcement to stop anything that involves lying.

We haven’t been a serious country for quite some time, Canadians are way too passive imo

  8. Was this article written by trump? Sounds like exactly what he says to justify tariffs and other bullshit treatment of the US’s former closest ally

Considering that various police departments work in partnership with the IDF, who have committed war crimes, I’d say the problems are greater than people realize.

Kick out everyone claiming asylum since 2015
Start over. Reduce the numbers and manage the border properly

Canada isn’t that bad… want to see criminal activity – look at all the „expats“ using Dubai as a tax shelter…

  12. Miss the days when it was just money launders in Vancouver buying real estate.

Im guessing we will prosecute this new wave of criminals the same way we did the previous ones.

Hmmm and yet they claim they are without bias. FO

  14. Let me guess; our only sensible option is to deport all foreigners, especially Indians, right?

Rightwing scare tactics just get boring after a while.

Its been that way for a long time. Everyone knows BC is a money laundering hub for Chinese wealth and criminals and Montreal is a Biker crime hub.
