“[Pellegrini] told us that if your prime minister would host him even for half an hour, it would be of great help for winning the elections. He told us it is way more important for their society than a visit to Washington,” Szijjártó continued, according to the transcript.

Szijjártó also said it was “important” that the far-right Slovak National Party (SNS) crossed the 5% threshold to parliament.

“It’s quite a plea, but I’ll pass it on to the PM,” Lavrov answered.

Szijjártó responded: “You have no idea how grateful I am that we are having this conversation. It is a sign of friendship.”

Pellegrini’s party ultimately lost the 2020 elections but returned to power under current Prime Minister Robert Fico in late 2023, in a coalition that includes the SNS.

    im shocked, shocked I say.

Honestly, did anyone have any doubts before this report that hungary wasnt in bed with russians and everything was being leaked to them

  3. Péter Szijjártó: – Hello Sergey, this is Péter. Thank you for speaking with me. If I understand correctly, you are in Munich for the conference, right?

Sergey Lavrov: – Yes, I am in Munich.

PSz: – I don’t want to disturb you, but the Prime Minister asked me to reach out because we have a very significant request for you. As you know, elections are coming up in Slovakia on February 29th, and it is crucial for us that the current coalition can continue. I understand this might sound strange coming from Hungarian conservatives, but we are hoping for a [victory] for the Social Democrats, as they are the only rational force in Slovak politics operating without foreign influence. Practically everyone else is funded by Soros. If the opposition wins, it would be a tragedy for Central European cooperation. It is also important that Speaker Danko’s Slovak National Party crosses the 5% threshold. We hope they succeed, but the only chance for the coalition to continue is if the governing party wins the election. Prime Minister Pellegrini was here yesterday and told us that if your Prime Minister could host him, even for just half an hour, it would be a huge help in winning the elections. He told us that this is far more important to [Slovak] society than a trip to Washington. Therefore, he asked us to ask you—and we are asking this on our own behalf as well—if such a thing could be organized, for your Prime Minister to host the Slovak Prime Minister in Moscow sometime in February…

SL: – This is a big request, but I will pass it on to the Prime Minister.

PSz: – I understand. It would be great if you could arrange it. Pellegrini asked for our help in this matter because he knows how good our relationship is, and that the relationship between our leaders is also good. That is why he entrusted us with this.

SL: – Péter, I will forward this request today and I will get in touch as soon as there is any development.

PSz: – Thank you. Let me emphasize once more how important it is for us that the coalition [in Slovakia] can continue. If they cannot continue, there is no chance for pragmatic cooperation in Central Europe, and we would lose a great deal.

    SL: – I understood.

PSz: – You have no idea how grateful I am for this conversation. This is a sign of friendship.

SL: – Anytime, my friend. All the best.

In the conversation above from February 2020, Péter Szijjártó asks his friend, Sergey Lavrov, to assist in the electoral victory of the Slovak social-democratic-nationalist coalition then led by Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini. The plan was to invite Pellegrini to Moscow at the last minute—acting as a „plus point“ in the eyes of pro-Russian Slovak voters.

  4. I’ve said it twice before, and I’ll say it again, Péter Szijjártó is a piece of shit.

  5. Note: he lobbied so that the hungarophobe parties would win or pass the parliamentary threshold.

I’m really curious how the ethnic Hungarians abroad are gonna vote in 19 days.
