Im sure there are some nationalities that would very much disagree with being classified as „Russian“.
Do you have a high def source? Thank you
dear God this is one of the ugliest maps I’ve ever seen
*according to the tzar
Looks like ethno-nationalist propaganda. Alone the absence of the nation of Ukraine speaks volumes
Nationalism has caused closely related groups of Russians to become divided and hostile. Despite cultural and linguistic similarities, just over 100 years after its founding, Little Russia considered itself a distinct nation from Greater Russia, even though DNA analysis suggested otherwise. Just like Germany and Austria, it’s as ridiculous as the South Slavs considering themselves Macedonians.
Late 19th century when most Crimean Tatars and Circanssians were killed or deported.
Mobile version pls? 🙏
This looks great!
this is quite a weird map, because ethnographic maps from the Russian Empire usually recognized both Ukrainians and Belarusians, just calling them „Small Russians“ and „White Russians“ respectively. Here’s a map by the same Aleksandr Rittich from 1875: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Ethnic_Map_of_European_Russia_by_Aleksandr_Rittich-1875.jpg
Yeaaah i don’t exist
я понимаю что эта карта показывает русских, украинцев и беларусов как три части одного народа, но из за качества не очень понятно где кто живёт
I know the post itself has a legend, but it’s all blurry. Do you have one to read?

Of course a russian wants to spread more of their antique russian narratives.
«Little Russians» lived in the lands where Rus‘ originated, in the lands of Kyivan Rus‘ and in Kyiv. And «great Russians» lived and still live in lands that were swamps during the heyday of Kyivan Rus‘. «Logically», in keeping with Russian propaganda.
Everyone speaking about ukraine, ukranians are little russian people from the territory of malorussia and the “little” is not a dispregiative term as we can see it being used by the ukranians themselves (read the citation of Ataman skoropadskii about the importance of union between little and great Russians.) the thing is that ukraine and ukranian are geographical concepts wich correspond to at the border and habitant of the border, in fact even Chechens and Caucasian defined themselves as ukranians even thought being quite obviously a totally different etnicity. Ukraine and concept of ukranians are pure fruit of the soviet work of ukraninisation done in the first years of the Soviet Union were people were forced to speak ukranian and a “history” was created based on fact actually derived from Russia. So yes there is nothing wrong in this map
I love that shade of green.
Us Poles are so powerful that we bended the reality and the map allowed us to exist on a liminal plane.
It’s interesting they don’t make distinction between Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians.
I have to say that it is what it is. Most of my family is from the Center and South of Ukraine. They all considered themselves Russian in the 19th and 20th century. I have asked my grandmother, who in her youth has asked her relatives. I was recently there (before the war) and one granny (older than my grandmother) said – „We used to be Russians, Soviets, Ukrainians – whatever. Our labels change, but we are still the same people here and our children didn’t change their blood. So now we are Ukrainian. Go explain that all of your (or almost all) ancestors were ethnic Russians and that you speak Russian. Now my grandchildren and their children study in Ukrainian, they have new documents, where my oldest grandson turned from Mikhail to Mikhailo. What are you going to do? That’s life“
I am paraphrasing her and translating, but this is the essence of what she said with all the points she made. It struck me.
Как посмотреть её в более нормальном (высоком) разрешении?
Ethnographic map of an empire renowned for it’s ethnic cleansings and displacement of native peoples. I bet that’s very reliable.
It’s crucial to carefully preserve these maps. We’re currently going through a period in which several parts of Europe’s largest nation are artificially separated from it. In the foreseeable future, these materials will be useful for restoring everything to its proper place.😌
