Den Einwanderern die Schuld für den Anstieg der Immobilienpreise zu geben, ist so falsch, dass es dumm ist

Racism in politics is filled with euphemisms. They’re taking our jobs, they’re suppressing wages, they’re causing housing inflation, etc.

Thank you for posting this – the country is so divided right now – and blaming immigrants is not the answer – legal immigrants took the opportunity that was provided and came to Canada

Meh, this article kinda assume that demand is not elastic and that massive immigration would have an immediate impact on housing prices.

  4. House price surge, no, that was pretty clearly attributed to WFH and cheap mortgage rates during COVID. Rent price surge, yes. You can get a lot more investors in the market at 2% but as we’ve seen with the decline in immigration, we’re seeing a decline in rents nationwide. That’s basic supply and demand, despite rising rates meaning that investors need higher rents to cover costs

  5. Blaming anyone other than government for the housing crisis is wrong. People – wherever they come from – don’t create inflation.

Also, having to buttress your argument by first stating that, if you disagree, „yOu’rE stUpiD“, kills your credibility.

Yes, the 2020-2022 massive increase was massively influenced by low-interest rates during covid. But without the immigration pressure, I doubt you have that sustained impact. Also, rent is the other major subject in discussing housing affordability that is conveniently ignored here.

In 2020, we had historic rate cuts with construction slowing down due to covid, which in turn increased demand as more people were capable of handling debt.

An oversimplification would be that prices increased due to the increase in demand and a decrease in supply.

So what did our government do? After housing prices have peaked we doubled our immigration rate and what does that do again? Increase demand and therefore increasing price. I’d be interested to see this analysis expand the scope to a 20 year period, comparing immigration rate, interest rates, and home prices, but I guess that won’t happen. As the economy opened up after the government started to relax, housing starts began but still could not keep up with demand, thus slightly lowering housing prices.

It’s funny how this analysis also doesn’t show rent prices increasing from 2020-2024 because that would defeat their narrative. It just so happens that rent prices have decreased when immigration cuts have decreased, isn’t that convenient for the racists?

  8. The price surge is caused primarily by the ponzification of our housing market, the renters crisis however was directly effected by immigration. It’s a multi-pronged issue, housing should not be seen as a short term financial investment.

Nice try. It’s playing a huge part. And we are blaming the governments immigration policy, not immigrants themselves.

The narrative has changed and this is now a socially acceptable view.

Ok let’s be clear is immigration the only reason no. But to sit here and say increasing the population, while building less and saying immigration has no stake in the mess, is false.

  11. Mass immigration has brought zero tangible benefits to Canada (unless you are a large corporation or business looking to maximize profits by exploiting cheap labour).

Housing prices are absolutely affected by it as is almost every other facet of our society. Pretending otherwise is stupid.

Blaming immigrants who came here legally isn’t right, but we should blame and denounce an immigration system solely focused on importing low-wage labour to enrich corporations and landlords while suppressing wages and displacing Canadians.

Also enlighten me, how does rapidly bringing in 3 million new people in 3 years during a nationwide housing crisis not affect the housing market in any way?
