People everywhere have been calling for the 25th amendment for over a year, now, ever since it became abundantly clear that Trump has advanced dementia alongside his pre-existing malignant narcissism. He needs to be removed because he is, quite simply, no longer fit to serve (if he ever was).
They’ll have to bring the MAGA base further along before he risks this kind of betrayal. They would crucify him if he did it today.
If Vance wants to be president, why doesn’t he just do it? Thiel would support him.

Trumps actions are certainly lamentable, and many have been overruled in the courts.
but newsweek does a poor job of defining in what ways Trump might be considered incapacitated. He’s not sequestered in bed while a cabal of west wing advisors rules in his name, as happened with Biden.
Democrats need to up their game, if they want him removed from office. Impeach, or bring sufficient charges in a federal court.
op-ed pieces like Newsweek are a waste of time only intended to fill space by pandering to their readers.

People don’t understand the 25th amendment and think it’s a cure all to our problems.
All Trump would have to do even if the 25th is invoked is to write a letter to the President pro tempore and the Speaker and say that he is fine. He would be president again. And it would be up to Congress with a 2/3rds vote in BOTH chambers to remove the president.
It’s actually harder to remove by the 25th than it is regular impeachment and removal since impeachment is a simple majority in the House.

It doesn’t work. Trump submits the letter to Congress which holds the same standard as an impeachment hearing to keep the President out of office.

I don’t see Vance beginning the process for the 25th Amendment. He’s not in a strong position at the moment. Marco Rubio is replacing him as the GOP front runner.
If the President is cooperative or incapable or responding then the 25th Amendment is a fit tool. Do you believe that Trump, no matter the forces raised against him, would submit?
(Edit: Given Trump’s condemnation of Autopen use, I suspect he or his minions use it a lot. I wouldn’t put it past Miller or other cronies to use the Autopen to sign a letter claiming competency even he was a drooling stroke victim.)
If you can get two thirds of the Senate to agree he should go, then why not try impeachment, which has a lower threshold in the House?
It’s at least possible for the Senate to vote to convict. We saw the potential for that in 2021. I do not think two thirds of the House, with its high percentage of Maga freaks would ever vote to harm their God King. Also, to invoke the 25th you have to convince Vance that it’s in *his* best interest. Maga would excoriate him as a traitor. Trump’s cabinet are unlikely to lose their grift willingly if it meant replacing Trump with Vance.

This is a man that wore shoes two sizes too big for him because he was afraid to speak up to daddy. There is no way in hell he is going to do anything that would cause the orangeone to tweet bad things abut him.
It’s never going to happen before 2027, and even in 2027 I’d say it’s doubtful. The 25th amendment requires a majority of his cabinet and his cabinet is full of sycophants.
Are people really this stupid? Read the 25th Amendment. It takes the VP and a majority of the Cabinet to declare him unfit to serve. And then, all Trump has to do is send a letter to Congress and say he is fit to serve. Then, if the Cabinet wants to still claim he isn’t, the issue goes to Congress to resolve, and a 2/3 majority of BOTH the House and the Senate have to agree he is unfit. This is pure fantasy. This clause of the 25th Amendment was not intended for this situation. It was intended for situations like when Reagan was shot in 1983 and didn’t have time to voluntarily designate the VP as acting President. Ironically, Reagan’s cabinet forgot the clause existed, leading to Secretary of State Alexander Haig famously claiming to be in charge at the White House.
The proper way to deal with this is through impeachment. It’s also extraordinarily unlikely to succeed, but it would be easier than invoking the 25th because it wouldn’t need the support of the Cabinet at all, and would only need a simple majority of the House.
It won’t work. All Trump would need to do if write the Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate a letter saying he’s fine, and then they’d need to have a 2/3rds vote in both houses to replace him, which is actually *harder* than impeachment. The 25th can really only be used to deal with presidents who physically can’t do their jobs. If the president is capable of saying no, it isn’t worth trying.
You’re forgetting the only intelligent thing Trump has ever done was pick a running mate who, no matter how bad he got, would STILL be a worse choice.
