  1. Basically, their plan is The Handmaid’s Tale. The GOP is fundamentally very ideologically similar to the regime in Iran that they pretend to hate so much.

Nothing new. The dream is to have permanent second class citizens, not welcome in the sphere of politics unless it is to oppress other women.

    From the piece:

*The Heritage Foundation’s latest document,* [*“Saving America by Saving the Family: A Foundation for the Next 250 Years,”*](https://www.heritage.org/marriage-and-family/report/saving-america-saving-the-family-foundation-the-next-250-years) *was published in January, and its purported goal is to reverse the country’s declining birthrate.*

*See, if you can’t physically force women to have more babies, which is what* [*abortion restrictions*](https://www.ms.now/news/hawley-abortion-pill-ban-republican-response-trump) *aim to do, you design government policies that pressure women into having more babies.*

*You cut off opportunities outside the home, you make the public sphere hostile to women’s independence and you create a system where the only viable path left for a woman is dependence on a man for survival. In other words, you drag the country back to a time when women had fewer choices.*

You know what helps the birth rate in virtually all populations of animals?

Assuring their stress levels are low.

Their policies will absolutely do the polar opposite of what they think.

Stepping all over women is not going to bring the birth rate up, it will cause it to decline further.

They’re stressing people out and that’s why the birth rate is going down.

Stress causes plants to change their reproduction strategy as well.

So, these people are causing the problem that they say they are trying to solve.

    > “Today’s adults may favor autonomy and personal development over raising children more than earlier generations did. Thus, greater opportunity cost rather than greater actual cost may be a better explanation.”

    > Translation: Women today have opportunities their grandmothers could only dream of. They can pursue education, careers, independence — lives that extend beyond marriage and motherhood.

And this is playing into the unjustified anger of younger men that pretend society is preventing them from getting laid.

    I hate these fucks.

White MAGA women, Gay repubplican, Latino Trump supporters.

Three voting block that I guess I will never understand for my whole life

  7. The Heritage Foundation is truly evil AF. They must be stopped at all costs.

  8. It’s a good thing Trump has never heard of Project 2025.

Would hate to see any of those terrible policies enacted.

I’m rewatching Scandal, and the Republicans on that show are downright the same ideologically to Bernie Sanders at this rate. They keep warning “what if” if the religious nut job Vice President ever becomes President and what they imagine is not even close to how bad we are experiencing life right now.

I know it’s a fictional show, but we have degraded as a society so much since 2011.

    >If women aren’t producing enough children, the answer is not to make parenthood easier with things like child care, paternal and maternal leave and education subsidies. The answer is to make women’s independence harder.

The reason the birth rate is declining is because Republican chucklefucks keep giving tax breaks to their billionaire friends, while screwing the lower and middle class, making it unaffordable for more and more Americans to have children!!

  12. notjustsome-all on

“the default in American culture today is to put the desires of adults over the needs of children”

Absolutely true. That’s why we don’t have, among other things, mandatory paid parental leave or paid sick leave, adequately funded public schools, free meals for kids at school, or politicians that care about reducing gun related deaths of children. Nope, the default is to meet the desires of adults in the oligarch class and funnel money up to them at all costs.

Fertility rate drop is mostly a function of teen pregnancy dropping and dragging the average with it. The pedos want to reverse that

soundtrack to the end of the world: “Good Boy” by Paris Paloma

“I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down /
I just didn’t expect them to be such losers

I have never seen submission embodied half so well /
As in, the feeble competition between men with souls to sell
And I’ve never seen a guard dog with less fearsome of a bite /
Than with its tail between its legs found at the rich’s man side

Look at him, he’s sweating, he’s sweating from the climb /
Office worker, soldier, CEO, he’s bleedin‘ and he’s blind /
And I’ve never seen a creature more pitiful than him /
He drinks power like saltwater, all because he cannot swim

Mouths open, servants of a higher power /
    They told him, it’s a staircase, it’s a tower /
Full circle, wagging tails, wearing a collar /
Poor madman, that’s what happens when you drink saltwater

Burned your tongue too early and realised too late /
The tragedy of losing everything you’ll never taste /
The clearness of the river, the honey on her tongue /
Door open to communion, bein‘ your father’s son

And I would not expect you to witness what we know /
The songs sung in the dark times, the fire and the snow /
We’ll be piling up our pyre and defend your lords /
And we’ll have our joy, but it’ll never be yours

Mouths open, servants of a higher power (ha) /
    They told him, it’s a staircase, it’s a tower /
Full circle, wagging tails, wearing a collar (ha) /
Even the dogs know not to drink saltwater

Good boy, you’re working exactly as intended /
Has the penny dropped? You’re never gonna get it /
Unrewarded for all of your defending /
    From your loneliness epidemic

Good boy, has any of the money trickled down yet? /
You say one day you’ll be rich, well, tell me how then /
Unpaid marketing department for the power /
    Good boy, good boy
    Oh-oh, good boy
    Good boy”

This plan wasn’t new even when Phyllis Schlafly was pushing it.

Leave aside that American citizens might not all get behind rolling back every equal rights gain since 1950 for a moment, although it ought to be obvious that some of us didn’t think The Handmaids Tale was an instruction manual. And just concern yourself, briefly, with the underlying economics of this moment.

Corporate enshittifcstion has crept into every sphere of business, with subscription models and various attempts to capture and hold consumers through ongoing fees and controlled access substituting for such things as making a decent product, shrinkflatiin reducing sizes while prices stay high, and quality in decline. Wages have been falling behind costs for years. Oligarchs and financial engineers come up with ever more creative ways to extract every last dime from the worker to enrich themselves. The automated surveillance of Amazon’s workers is what happens when Taylorism meets utter disregard for the humanity of the employee. Small numbers of software brokers get rich off gig labor, commodifying insecurity and lack of a future as “flexibility” and “independence”.

The Heritage Foundation surely does want to torture American women out of the work force. They are also bankrolled by precisely the same capitalist forces that want everyone in America in the formal labor force so that capital can profit from that labor. And certainly the same capitalists who, if someone is making enough to support some kids, thinks that someone is making too much. I wonder if anyone over there even notices the vast gulf between their two competing ideological poles?

It’s not a new plan. This was their plan before a bunch of idiots voted in the felon

When a Democrat comes back to power, they need to declare the Heritage Foundation a domestic terrorist organization & have it disbanded…

Some of us who grew up in Christian nationalism and got out of it have been screaming this is what they want for over a decade just to be told we’re being hysterical idiots who don’t know what we’re talking about. All I can say at this point is that I was raised so conservatively that when I went to Iran the rules felt normal to me, so good luck.

We are simultaneously responsible for the continuation of humanity and not deserving of an education, fulfillment, autonomy or respect.

    We are not fucking incubators.

  20. Yo, hear me out. If you think karens be karening before you try to make them second class citizens, just fucking wait. There is no world where this shit doesn’t backfire.

  21. It’s like these people have never read Greek literature. Do you think women have no say in how this will turn out?

How does this work when our entire economy has shifted to needing 2 incomes to survive?

At some point they should be branded as a terrorist organization. Won’t happen while the current admin is in power, but hopefully soon after.

Can anyone explain the contradictory nature of this proposal and the paradox of those who support it? They want to eliminate jobs by the millions with AI, and also reduce government spending on people and services, while at the same time promoting higher rates of reproduction in a society that doesn’t prioritize or value human workers. Someone make this make sense.
