    1. There was a time a part of becoming an adult is understanding people think and prioritize differently than you not because they’re bad people but because they’re chasing after different good things.

I don’t think people even understands what tribalism or totalitarianism is anymore.

Yeah, let’s not care about politics… Nothing stops you from analyzing facts and fighting your biaises. I’d argue politics should be that way

Not very different from becoming an avid sports fan, or joining a religious cult, methinks.

So the best way to be political is to be more concerned with truth than being right.

It doesn’t particularly help when your options available have become fairly similar except one is just the more extreme version of the other, you don’t have much else to go on at that stage besides this team-sports effect unless you’re really, really into certain issues and are begrudgingly supporting a party to try and get to those issues

Never let your politics become your personality. The secret ballot was designed to protect you from blackmail, retaliation, influencing, or bribes. It can also protect you from being avoided because you won’t stop talking about politics. Trust me, my bachelor’s degree is in political science.

Politics is we up precisely to cause the turmoil we’re all witnessing today. what proves this point is just look at how they voted to protect their sexual harassment/fund on both sides of the aisle. They’re protecting the entire political strategy, not one individual side or the other…

If it’s a binary system like the USA has then I could see this being the case. In general though, political discussion should be a nuanced conversation on how we govern and enable and care for each other. But… ya know. Human nature is hard to overcome. We just wanna win at whatever cost, regardless of if it is actually right or wrong.

It reminds me of a debate team addage: winning a debate and being right are two separate thing.

Edit: i know systems with more than two parties can also fall victim to the same complex as well.

I’d like to see a further study involving those who practice mindfulness and those who don’t. Something tells me there would be a big difference between the two groups.

This is not about “politics” in the sense of how we, as a people, make decisions about what powers the state should or shouldn’t have in governance, but “politics” in the sense of the current political media landscape where oligarchs pit us against each other through manipulation to enrich themselves with wealth and power.

I mean, both sides are literally saying „You’re evil, monsters and should die if you have the wrong politics“, so I can see how that sort of thinking long term might actually make you stupid. People would be motivated to not even understand the other sides points, or lump everyone into the extremes of the side that they hate and think is literally so evil that killing them is the correct and moral option.
