  1. I thought this was an interesting article overall, but the author is basing his estimate of 17 million using a bell curve with an average IQ score of 100, and looking at what percent of the population would be 1 standard deviation below that (<85).

    But from what I’ve seen Japan has one of the highest national IQs in the world, closer to 107. If that was the case 1SD down would 91-92 or so, meaning the actual number of borderline people could be a fair bit lower than he estimates.
