  1. >For thousands of years, the nomadic Turkana people have lived across the sun-baked expanses of northwestern Kenya, subsisting almost entirely on the milk, meat, and blood of their livestock. In an arid region where temperatures regularly reach a sweltering 122 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) and water is perilously scarce, they have thrived on a high-protein diet that would **probably** make other humans sick with metabolic diseases.

    >“If you and I went on a Turkana diet, primarily eating lots of meat, fat and protein, we’d **probably** get sick very fast,” Ayroles points out. “But this community has been eating these foods for many generations and are adapted. This is part of what we’re trying to understand here.”

There’s a lot of „probably“ going on here and not that much actual science

Similar to cats‘ kidneys that are so efficient they can survive with almost no water, provided they eat „wet“ food (ie.: meat). They can also, in some emergency situations, rehydrate drinking seawater.

  3. Life expectancy of Turkana people is thought to be anywhere from 45 to 60 years (More recent data suggests ~58). Considerably lower than the ~65 years life expectancy of Kenyans in general.
