I hate this myth our food is bad. We produce great food, but we lack imagination when creating with it

Good job they started by trying the food Ireland is famous for, takeaway pizza

My friend’s in laws are from Ohio. They hate the food here. Mad craic.

Some of the freshest seafood and best food I’ve ever tasted was from Ireland. Dingle and Cork English Market specifically.

I would say the average quality of food in Ireland is quite high, as are the prices . Better chance having a decent meal out in Ireland from going to a random
Place compared to many of our European neighbours, even those with lauded “food cultures”.

If this is their idea of ‚decent‘ food, of course they’re going to think the *actual* food here is terrible. I wouldn’t imagine this is the type of person to appreciate grass-fed beef, organic free range eggs or fresh fruit and vegetables.

  7. I would who heartedly agree with the statement, but not coming from an American who thinks that is a good pizza.

  8. That pizza does look pretty shit in fairness, they probably just ate in bad places.

My brother was in college with a fella from a small town in America. When his parents came to visit they hated the food – too fresh for them. They ended up eating in Burger King and Maccy D’s for the last few days.

    Immigrant perspective…
The ingredients are far superior than many places, the variety is increasing (even over just the past ten years. )
The further ye get from English cuisine. The better!
There are loads of interesting cafes, bakeries, and food trucks opening, but it takes a whole lot of effort and luck to get something to catch. I managed restaurant and a chipper. People here will go mad for something new, but it only lasts a few weeks before going back to the simple old toasted sangwich, snack boxes, bolognese, etc.
I am seeing a few things stick here and there though!
Also, even foreign things like fast food, and condiments are better here due to good, real, fresh ingredients as opposed to creations from a lab.
There is no good pizza though, aside from the italian lad in the food truck on the quay… he’s sound out… but
    I make that myself anyways

If you avoid the tourist traps there is amazing food to be had out there. I’ve eaten some awful meals in the US too

  12. If you go to shit restaurants and takeaways, you’ll get shit food. That’s universal.

  13. If someone can’t find decent food in Ireland then I think they might be the problem.

Someone probably put something green on his plate.

Irish food quality and restaurant quality are quite well regarded these days. Our ‚cuisine‘ was basically peasant from a time when we literally lived off scraps of land and had anything decent exported to England. And I don’t think we’ve ever bragged it either.

And we don’t pump it all full of antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones either. Irish mid quality beef from Lidl is better than most too shelf beef you’d find in the US and much of Europe.

It’s a margarita pizza – so plain. I’d reckon the person is a picky eater by default.

Best beef and dairy products come from here.

What and where were they eating? That looks like a standard takeaway pizza, I’m guessing they weren’t going to good restaurants

If that pizza is high calibre to them, anything else they’ve said regarding food is to be taken with a pinch of salt.
