  1. Sources & Methodology

    Data sources:

∙ Vietnam War (Aug 1965): Gallup Poll — “In view of the developments since we entered the fighting in Vietnam, do you think the U.S. made a mistake sending troops to Vietnam?”
∙ Gulf War (Jan 1991): Gallup / CNN / USA Today Poll, January 16–17, 1991 — approval of military action to drive Iraq from Kuwait
    ∙ Afghanistan (Oct–Nov 2001): Gallup / CNN / USA Today Poll, November 2–4, 2001 — approval of U.S. military action in Afghanistan following 9/11
∙ Iraq War (Mar 2003): Gallup / CNN / USA Today Poll, March 22–25, 2003 — approval of the invasion of Iraq
∙ Iran Strikes (Feb–Mar 2026): Reuters/Ipsos Poll, February 28–March 1, 2026; additional data from Operation Epic Fury polling, first week results

Tool used: Nano Banana Pro (AI infographic generator)

Notes on methodology: All figures reflect polling conducted within the first 2–3 weeks of each conflict’s commencement. “Unsure/No Opinion” figures represent residual respondents not captured in approve/disapprove figures. Vietnam polling reflects the earliest available representative Gallup data point. Iran figures are averaged across two polls conducted in the first week.

  2. Travesty that a „democracy“ can engage in a war that’s opposed by more people than supported. Should not be possible. It’s not the „demos“ doing the „cratia“, apparently

  3. And they were all disasters with no actual benefit to anyone other than weapons manufacturers. Maybe only Iraq has seen some benefits to their people, but not by that much.

I wonder how long it’s going to be before MAGA starts telling us that they’ve always been against the war.

It’s interesting. The military began its policy of „embedding“ journalists (controlling their ability to cover combat zones around the time of their „activities“ in Grenada and Panama and it’s been in place ever since. Vietnam was the last conflict during which they didn’t control the flow of news. In 2014, Chelsea Manning wrote an opinion piece in the NYT about the ethics of this policy. A free link to this piece is below.

“Americans easy to dupe into forever war if you just bother to try”

  7. I’m just happy that each graph adds up to 100%, I lowkey hate it when they don’t

  8. Uhmmm…not sure what the ranking means, its not in chronological order. What’s the point…? Where is the data from? Oh, CNN and USA Today LOL That explains that part.

What’s the fucking value of AI illustrations here? C’mon! Please avoid using chatgpt for one fucking thing!!

Seems like a pretty convincing confirmation that a government of the people and by the people has been betrayed by its leaders.

Not only do the people not want this in the first place, they’re now going to be stuck dealing with the consequences of it for years if not decades.

    Impeach, remove, convict

In previous excursions, the public had the benefit of an explanation (no matter how incredible – communist expansion, WMDs, etc). Here we had nothing but a known liar who sucker punched a honey badger expecting to just walk away.

The anti trump crowd dislikes it because trump, the pro trump crowd dislikes it because they dislike intervention… and here I am being supportive because I am taking into consideration the terrible regime being toppled and the Iranian people.

  13. Because Trump doesn’t care if ANYONE agrees with him – he’s not about to wait to educate or build any consensus.

So the gulf war was the only one that wasn’t an unmitigated disaster, and most progressives were against the others from the start. Will progressives ever get credit for being “right about Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan?” Doubt it

  15. That post 9-11 patriotism was crazy.

I distinctly remember even my parents, Chinese immigrants who normally couldn’t give less of a shit about being American patriots, buying a tiny American flag to put on our front door.

  16. I like how the early stage of Vietnam war is shown. It’s like OP has an agenda.

The 36% should be drafted and be sent to Iran to further support the war

  18. reececonrad on

Gotta wait for that false flag attack on US soil to ramp up support. Check back in a few weeks

  19. Makes you wonder if the Iran conflict is uniquely awful or if the American people are finally learning that War is always awful for everyone.

Could someone explain why I can’t click on the image to zoom in? It seems like certain sensitive images have their functionality stripped away

  21. so saudi got renamed iraq and iraq got renamed “liberate kuwait”?

the irony of a sub called data is beautiful having AI slop

  22. I think calling it Iran Strikes softens the blow than calling it Iran War like the others.

  23. NickRomancer on

I wish I could see the final public opinion ( last few weeks) of selected military conflicts.

  24. I guess the lesson here is you gotta make a show and raise a ruckus before you start your boondogle. You can’t just dry dick a war.
