      Seems to be less „Canada, UK, and Co getting involved directly in the Epstein deflection war“ and more „Canada, UK, and Co are prepared to prepare to help allow safe travel through the Strait, but we would rather you all just fucking knock it off“.

      Good fucking luck, all Iran needs to do is blow up a tanker or throw mines into the straight and it will remain closed.

      We shouldn’t endanger any Canadian lives to clean up the mess that the Americans and Israel caused. They can clean it up themselves.

      Besides, what are we going to be able to contribute that the US military can’t?

      I don’t this is a reversal. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open is in everybody’s interest. The original Canadian stance (and the stance of other US allies) was that they wouldn’t contribute to any campaigns to keep the strait open that were doomed to fail. There may be some efforts to keep the strait open that will actually work. If there are, Canada will. contribute to the effort.

      Although I do find it insane that US allies are still blaming Iran. Did they close the strait? Yes. But they did it to get US allies to pressure the US to end the war. Condemning Iran outright while refusing to condemn the US (at least in explicit terms) goes against everything that Carney said in Davos. The statements that Macron is making are even more ridiculous. I’m even more surprised at the Danish PM given that the threats the US made against Greenland were very explicit. People say American hegemony is ending but the world response to the Iran situation says otherwise.

      This would end tomorrow if the U.S. suspended their attacks on Iran and, more importantly, cut off all aid to Israel.

      Not one Canadian service member should be put in harm’s way just because the Americans elected an insane clown (twice!!) to run their country.

      If the “allies” had any balls they’d refuse any and all aid until there was a ceasefire.

      Israel dragged the idiotic Americans into this and has also put the global economy at risk. Maybe folks around the world should be asking themselves how it is that such a tiny nation (Israel < 10 million) has been the source of so much turmoil and violence visited on the rest of us over the last 75 years.

      They didn’t mention Israel or the U.S at all in their joint statement; they’re exclusively holding Iran accountible for a war of self-defence. 

      Do we seriously expect Iran to play nice, when we refuse to treat any other party the same way?

      Let America suffer the consequences of their actions for once. They blocked oil from getting to cuba, now oil is getting blocked from getting to the US by Iran. Yeah, absolutely sucks for Canada, but these bafoons need to realize that their actions have consequences and the longer they play god the more likely it will be that they’ll get to meet him.

      Iran has one play to strike back at the US and Israel, to stop oil from leaving the region, so whether it is blocking the Strait of Hormuz or taking out oil and gas infrastructure in other Gulf States, the die has been cast.

      The Iranian regime knows this is existential, doesn’t trust the Israelis or Americans and won’t stop.

      Iran has a massive army, nearing 1 million soldiers, the people aren’t going to rise up against the regime with them around.

      The world is different now. There isn’t much that can be done.
