  1. >He described as “a wake up call and a warning to everybody” an event in Trafalgar Square earlier this week where hundreds of Muslims and people of other faiths prayed together, before the celebration of Eid.
He said the event, organised by the Ramadan Tent Project and attended by Sadiq Khan, London’s mayor, was “an open, deliberate, wilful attempt, not at the private observance of a different religion, but the attempt to overtake, intimidate and dominate our way of life”.

If this was about any other religion in the UK, there would be wall to wall condemnation in the media and from most elected officials.

But because its about the religion that right wing politicians have been scare-mongering against for the last decade, politicians feel comfortable enough saying such bigoted remarks about it.

The party that complains people can be arrested for hurty words wants people arrested for religious ones.

Please can we ban all god botherers from using sound amplification? And while we’re at it, buskers as well.

  4. FlaviousTiberius on

That’s fine, as long as it includes Christians with megaphone outside primark

If we must ban anyone can it not be the christian street preachers with their sound equipment?

Let’s discriminate equally and ban all religious displays in public. Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu.. the lot can be banned together. I’d argue that most buskers are Pastafarian so we can ban them while we’re at it.

Strange he wants to overturn the buffer zone law that stops anti abortion people praying outside abortion cliniics

  8. There’s literally Sikh, Hannukah and Hindu there.

    Ofcourse that’s not an issue.

He’s also using American terminology such as „Judeo-Christian Values“.

These are bad actors looking to devolve the country into a cesspit of hate, all amplified through social media

I’m an atheist from a Christian background but I would love to see Muslims being able to pray in public.

Even if I disagree, even if I don’t like their religion (and all the other ones), I love diversity and difference and what other cultures can teach you more than what I think people should or shouldn’t believe.

This is what tolerance actually is. People that vote Farage think somehow tolerance means you have to like or venerate other people different to you. Err no. It just means respect your fellow human.

    And the Tories supported him.

This is completely, utterly, unacceptable. No other religion would be treated like this. Making religion-specific laws would be an awful precendent.

  11. Fine with that really, sick of street preachers pushing their bullshit on to others.

I’m up for banning religion in public full stop. I think it was the great Stephen Fry who once said that religion is like a penis. It’s perfectly acceptable to have and enjoy, but don’t whip it out in public and wave it in my face.

Obviously religion is extremely dumb but I just can’t support this.

The event they’re moaning about isn’t new, its been going on for years.

  15. No. I hate Reform and believe we are fucked if they get in but taking over public places for public prayer is a step too far. How much did this cost for policing? If it were a public ritual for Satanists, there’d be an outcry. Same mythical belief. Practice whatever fable belief you want in your home or in your place of worship but do not impose it upon everyone else.
