The worst part about this thisisfine.jpg hegemony is being trapped inside it.

[China pledges billion-dollar spending boost for science](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-00770-y)
    >11 March 2026

    >The Chinese government is ramping up its support for science, announcing plans to boost two key budgets at the country’s biggest political meeting, called the Two Sessions.

    >China has proposed to increase its overall research and development (R&D) expenditure by at least 7% per year over the next five years, which translates to billions of extra dollars each year. This typically covers government and private-industry spending on basic research, applied research and experimental development.

    >China’s R&D expenditure has skyrocketed over the past 20 years. Last year, it exceeded 3.9 trillion yuan (US$567 billion). For the past five years, it has has increased by at least 8% a year.

    >China’s latest R&D target was set as part of the country’s next five-year plan (FYP), which serves as an overarching blueprint and will run from 2026 to 2030. The plan — the 15th in the country’s history — is currently being reviewed by lawmakers in Beijing.

I’m not concerned about this. Our economic spending (which is what these are mostly about) is going to more strategically important places now.

Foreign aid is there to support foreign policy, but on the “soft power” side of that. We are not lacking soft power, but we are lacking hard power, and Carney is fixing that by rebuilding the military. So again, I don’t see any problem with the funding shifts and the strategy behind them is good.

    This is stupid to cut

The Local Food Infrastructure — which gave community groups grants of up to $500,000 for greenhouses, cold storage and processing equipment — will end.

We need more food infrastructure. We need more farmers. We need more local organic food.

    Stupid stupid stupid

Health cut, environment cut, broadcasting cut, science cut, culture cut.

5% of GDP goes to the military.

    Who is this helping?

I sure hope they dont reduce funding for the fusion research we’ve got going on, we’re at the forefront of magnetized target fusion and theres been a lot of great advancements over the last few years.
