I wonder what a map of people who have ever heard of/know about Western Sahara would look like? But I guess that dataset doesn’t exist.

The Sahrawis deserve self-determination independent of Morocco’s agenda. If that means being an independent nation or an autonomous region, it should be their choice. I don’t think Morocco has the best intentions at all and Spain really fumbled the situation, but here we are 50 years later.

Many hypocrites and inconsistent figures currently in charge of European governments (when it comes to this matter) can be seen here (especially those who later try to pass themselves off as supposed champions of the “right to self-determination”)

Recognizes Moroccan Sovereignty Over The Area: Recognizes Western Sahara as apart of the Kingdom of Morocco
Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Proposal: The king of Morocco is head of state, the federal government retains the flag, the money printing, the army, supreme court, foreign diplomacy, while the Sahrawis in the region manages all the rest, regional government, laws, elections, economy, natural ressources, basically everything else
Recognizes the SADR As A Sovereign Nation: Recognizes the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as a sovereign nation (even diplomatic relations)
Remains Neutral: Hasn’t expressed any stance for either side
Status Unclear: Syria

Spain was supporting independence but then Morocco opened its borders and started flooding Spain with immigrants. So Spain forgot about independence.
