  1. Two graphs showcasing the composition of german MPs, first in the Reichstag and later in the Bundestag. The first one shows them based on partisan or factional affiliation. All parties or factions are represented, with the only exception of some Weimar-era agrarian movements and Wilhelmine regionalist parties being grouped together. The second one shows parties based on their position on the left-right axis, with blue being the right and red being the left, green being regionalist non-Bavarian or Hanoverian parties. This division is highly subjective. The sources of these graphs are all pages listed under [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Germany#German_elections_from_1871_to_1945](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Germany#German_elections_from_1871_to_1945) and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Germany#German_elections_since_1949](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Germany#German_elections_since_1949), as well as [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sozialistische_Arbeiterpartei_Deutschlands_(1931)](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sozialistische_Arbeiterpartei_Deutschlands_(1931)) and [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unabh%C3%A4ngige_Sozialdemokratische_Partei_Deutschlands](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unabh%C3%A4ngige_Sozialdemokratische_Partei_Deutschlands) . 2. That 1935-1945 time period is very one party. Wonder what was going on then. Oh right…

  3. I think it would be correct to mark the SPD as left rather than center left for the first few elections of the Bundesrepublik – after all, the party only really changed after 1959 and Bad Godesberg.

The parallels leading up to 1939 and the last few years are terrifying. Just 2 more years to full takeover if that trend was mirrored.

Isn’t the AFD ideologically closer to the DNVP? So shouldnt they be coloured Royal Blue instead of the deep dark blue?

Because you also coloured the post-ww2 SPD different than prewar SPD.

It would be cool if you included the parliament of the DDR as well! (It should only take up 1/4 of the space since the DDR had a much smaller population than he BRD.)

  7. Somehow this suggests to me that voters of FDP went to AfD. Makes some sense when you consider the average FDP voter.

I don’t know enough about the German parliament to tell from this graph: how did you handle the West/East split and then reunification?

  9. Love the idea and presentation. Thanks for sharing.

It would also make sense to look into other EU countries + the EU itself.

  10. The parallels of the NSDAP and AFD are insane. Not long, and its going to be the exact same outcome…

just get rid of the red, green, yellow, black, and dark blue and we are good

call me crazy, but if my predictions aka perception is correct, then there is a sinister pattern emerging at the end of each graph…

(idk if thats necessary context, but i’m from said country)
