Hallo zusammen,

  • sichtbare Preisinformationen in mehreren Sprachen

Danke 🙏

  1. Here is the full English translation of the petition:

    **To**:

    * The Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia
    * The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia
    * Yerevan Municipality
    * The Police of the Republic of Armenia
    * The Management of „Armenia International Airports“ CJSC
    * The Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the RA

**Subject: Measures to curb the activities of unlicensed carriers and protect the tourism image of Armenia.**

    **Appeal**

„Zvartnots“ International Airport is the pride of our country. In 2025, it confirmed its high status by winning the ASQ Customer Experience Awards for „Best Airport in Europe“ and „Most Dedicated Staff.“

However, this prestigious status and Armenia’s atmosphere of hospitality are destroyed within the very first minutes of guests‘ arrival in the country due to the chaotic and illegal activities of unlicensed carriers in the arrivals area.

    **Problem Description**

At the terminal exit, groups of individuals systematically operate private transportation using fraudulent schemes. Taking advantage of the language barrier and the confusion of tourists, these individuals:

Manipulate pricing: They quote a price without specifying the currency, and at the end of the trip, they demand payment in Russian rubles or American dollars at a 1:1 exchange rate to the dram.

Conceal tariff conditions: Upon arrival, they claim that the quoted amount was the „price per kilometer,“ inflating the final cost by 3–10 times.

Exhibit inappropriate behavior: The work of these individuals is accompanied by rudeness, a lack of basic manners, and intrusive service that borders on harsh psychological pressure.

Such incidents not only violate the law but also seriously degrade the first impression of the country’s atmosphere as a whole, creating a sense of danger and deception for guests instead of the expected warmth.

    **Proposed Measures**

The high title of „Best Airport in Europe“ obligates a corresponding level of service. We propose:

    **1. Informational Transparency (Multilingual Approach):**

Install prominent information boards at the exit of the arrivals area in several languages (Armenian, English, Russian, French) indicating the average fixed cost of a trip to the center of Yerevan in drams.

Place QR codes for official taxi aggregators with a clear explanation: „The price in the app is final.“

    **2. Infrastructural Solutions:**

Make public transport stops and ticket terminals as visible as possible (bright floor navigation, illuminated signs).

Ensure the possibility of paying for bus tickets with foreign bank cards (Visa/Mastercard) directly at the airport, so that the lack of cash drams does not make the tourist a hostage to illegal carriers.

    **3. Safety and Law Enforcement:**

Organize a permanent police presence in the exit zone to immediately suppress intrusive solicitation of citizens and resolve conflict situations.

Together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, tighten control over compliance with licensing rules in the airport zone.

    **Conclusion**

It is unacceptable for the personal interests of unscrupulous individuals to damage the reputation of the state. We call upon the responsible agencies to protect the status of „Zvartnots“ and ensure the guests of Yerevan the safety they deserve.

    Easy fix:

    1. Formal licensing for any taxi driver at the airport (like in London).
    2. Keep police outside the airport and have them kick out any Taxi drivers that don’t have a license.

Also possible solution: have official booths for GG and Yandex Taxi right by the exit of the airport.

I flew into Zvartsnots as an American on the 15th, and every single stupid Taxi driver kept thinking I was a mark. Thank God I know better than to trust airport taxi drivers.

Policing of the taxis in Zvartnots comes and goes, and no one is arguing that something should be done but who on earth takes a random taxi from the airport? Any airport, anywhere, not just in Armenia.

I don’t even remember the last time I used a taxi off the street anywhere, the stress of whether you’ll get someone normal or not doesn’t worth it.

  4. As someone who has lived here for almost 2 decades, having taxi drivers as a first point of contact for our guests is not the right message. Many countries have figured out how to deal with it, I really think it comes down to policy enforcement. Start fining solicitors on airport property and you’ll take care of the problem.

  5. Make another petition to bring back paperless tickets..it’s just unnecessary waste of time and paper.

    Edit:

I’m at the airport and I asked a worker there about it, and he gave me a nonsense answer:

“we will have that when we enter schengen!” and “check in agents check for your visa/resident card etc while border control only check your passport!?”

I was like why the border police don’t check them both and save us the hassle!? if you fly from Thailand/Vietnam to Europe you can use the QR code and they are not schengen🤨

I am planning to visit Yerevan early this April. What should I do to avoid these scams?

We have the same problems in Istanbul with our taxi drivers, but there are a lot of alternative ways of transportation, so it’s unnecessary to use a taxi if you are not in a rush.

  7. Oh dear, I have so long history of going against this problem. Our govenrment has a structural problem – they. And solve issues which are not evidently exist on paper.
And they hate (or how they like to call it – the legal framework does not allow it) to do unannounced raids.

Because these are not taxis, they don’t see a problem. These are just people who convince to ride you. Until the moment they do a crime (which happens already later and in car), nothing limits them.
I have a white skin and not a very common Caucasian face. Every time I return home from any trip, they attempt to scam me. Every time I file a claim to police (for intimidation and for illegal solicitation of taxi service). Police don’t do anything. Because by the time I reach home, no one has any proof anymore.

  8. For me not even yandex was any different. After I ordered a taxi off at yandex at the airport the driver kept asking for dollars and got out of his car and started following me everywhere for half an hour demanding more money from me

  9. It’s insane to me that this wasn’t banned years ago. Every single time I come out of the airport I have to fight off multiple middle aged fat men coming up to me with ‚brat, taksi nado?‘ They NEVER leave after one ’nyet‘ either, they just go ‚huh? huh?‘ and keep following you until you almost have to get physical with them. It’s the most third world shit ever, the worst possible first impression of the country for tourists and a recurring headache for residents (like me).

I arived in armenia on the first of this month, and what a first experience I had. I already had a taxi set up but it was like vultures circling the kill. One guy wouldnt stop and I told him I was going to beat him till either me or him saw god. And that was about the end of it. Do not take any taxis from outside the 2 doors unless you want to pay 20000k dram for a 1200 k dram ride. Yandex is best way to go, even though they dont speak english they have been very nice. And be ready for a wild ride everytime. If you dont get in 5 near wrecks per ride your driver isnt doing his job correctly. I hate mornings near embassy.
