He is the rapist, America is that 14 year old’s mouth.

He does it virtually. He does it actually. He does it daily.

    Everything. Trump. Touches. Dies.

This has been a truism for years, get with it, people.

  3. MAGA probably thinks this is good because we’re no longer “Liberal” and will ignore the “Democracy” part.

This has always been the case, republicans don’t even try to hide it, it’s their whole conspiracy, all branches of government are in on it. Still, people leap in defense of republicans.

Aiming for? We’re basically already there. The Republicans have given him carte blanche to do anything he wants, the Democrats can’t do much to impede him due to a combination of powerlessness and spinelessness, the court system is deeply compromised, SCOTUS gave him near unlimited power, elections are in the process of being compromised, concentration camps are being set up for “undesirables” and are being filled by masked gunmen extrajudicially kidnapping people, and the vast majority of major media outlets are controlled by allies of the regime. Wake up and realize WE’RE ALREADY THERE.

At this point I wish all the energy of Existential Delegitimatcy aimed at Israel is instead directed towards the USA because it going Full Mask off as a Dictatorship is an existential threat to international security…

  7. There are a lot of Republicans who don’t understand the difference between Liberal Democrats and liberal democracy that would be very excited by this headline if they could read. There are also a lot of literate Republicans who do understand the difference between Liberal Democrats and liberal democracy that are even more excited.

This situation would never have been possible in a real democracy, anyway. The point is not for a country of 330 million people to select *one* person to give completely unaccountable power to- even on paper that idea is just insane and ridiculous

  9. Liberal democracy was already the worst kind, now we are getting something even worse

edit: Americans are so fucking politically illiterate that it causes me physical pain

If you think that Orange Rapist isn’t going to „install“ himself as president for life before he dies, then I bet you also think that Democrats are going to give us a real (sorry not sorry, Obama) progressive candidate sometime before 2028.

Right this very minute there are discussions at the White House about cancelling elections and/or having Vance refuse to certify a Democrat president-elect (if Democrats manage to identify a candidate, campaign, and win).

Almost Every Person in the US have weapons. What is with them? Why don’t we see a Revolution?

Motherfucker is waging a war without approval of congress and finds a new way every month to pay himself 10 billion. We´re way past aiming…

The institute behind this study identified the US as an „electoral autocracy.“ It could be helpful moving toward November to have a nuanced label to apply like this because it may give R’s seeking (re)election anxiety as they field questions from exhausted voters. That is, if Dems seriously begin harnessing the A-word in their ads and debate responses.

While I really do want to call the US a „dictatorship“ when I’m at my angriest, I realize such alarmist terminology isn’t helpful in trying to win voters. It’s gotta be tamped down to something more precise and persuasive considering we’re technically still permitted to vote but „it’s complicated.“

I have wondered how long it would take us to stop naively calling ourselves a „democracy“ despite the fact that we call other counties „socialist,“ „communist,“ and „dictatorships“ all we want.

I’m waiting now for Trump to reaffirm the status of our electoral autocracy by denying the study is real and throwing a temper tantrum over it. A true believer in democracy would read the findings in shock and work to fix the problem.

I am glad that my (RN, US Army Lieutenant WWII vet) grandmother is not here to see this. She was so proud to be an American and serve her country.

  15. Hate to break it to you all but we’re already in an autocracy. When the US made an “80 year old/pedo/insurrectionist/30x felon/Epstein lover and protector/known as Don the con since the 80s” President for a second time despite attempting to literally overthrow democracy the first time the autocracy began… lol.. dunno how we get out of this..

I made my peace 11 years ago, people need to start preparing themselves. Are you really just going to let this democracy die? Especially for an elderly pedophile, and his disgusting cohorts?

It’s easy to condemn him online, maybe it’s time for more than just a weekend protest. One weekend doesn’t change the course of this country.

Unfortunately we are relying on the people that protect the Epstein class, to save us. Biden had 4 years to hold this man accountable, Merrick Garland did too, and they did nothing. Stop relying on these people to change this country, they’ve proven they won’t. Republicans have proven they don’t care either, It’s up to us.

Let’s get past the midterms to see if we are a dictatorship or not. We may surprise ourselves.

  18. HuTaosTwinTails on

Yeah. Anyone and everyone with a brain told you this before the election. He even said as much multiple times before the election, and yer MAGAts and Republicans still wanted him. They want fascism.

  19. BasilisksRPretty on

Friendly reminder that the USA was only a democracy for women and Black people for a relatively short time in its history.

  20. External-Plastic-154 on

A lot of American voters seem to be losing faith in democracy. But they’ve never actually experienced a true authoritarian regime. When you don’t know what that’s really like, it can start to look like a viable alternative. It always looks like it’ll work out… right up until you get punched in the face.

  21. Stop declaring that American democracy is dead. You people are doing Trump’s work for him.

It’s not. He’s the weakest he has ever been, and the GOP is going to get sodomized in the upcoming midterms…

  22. Loses…?

Trump’s elections (both) were definitely interfered-with “wins.” Trump made it clear he worships dictators, longed to be one. 😡

  23. cat_dev_null on

and somehow this was supposed to be better than harris

lmao the right gaslit the left into not voting

  24. Vote blue at the midterms and Trump loses most of his power. Our last best chance to save democracy.

  25. >‘Trump is aiming for a dictatorship’

Not just Trump. He couldn’t do it without massive amounts of assistance from the rest of the GOP.

  26. I just remember 2016/2017 when many very intelligent people warned the US and the world that Trump is an Authoritarian, a Fascist, and an enemy of all Western values. And a grave danger.

„Nooo, you can’t say that! This is hyperbole! Also the US institutions. Yadda yadda.“

I wish I could laugh about it, but we are so deeply in the shitters now.

My interest in this is something that not a lot of people are talking about: asylum. Right now the people that are leaving the country are doing so because they have the means to; they are in a needed profession or they have dual citizenship somewhere else, etc. From my understanding, it’s not really feasible for people to leave now if they fear persecution because people can 1.) flee to blue states if needed and 2.) because up until now, other countries have considered the US a „safe country“ despite everything that has been happening.

As of now fleeing to a blue state is still possible, but let’s say that theoretically (because I don’t think this is going to happen) the midterms does not go well. There could be a backsliding to the point where blue states are no longer a feasible option.

Will this downgrade in status make it possible for people to apply for asylum somewhere else?

  28. He’s already silencing the press, once the republicans pass their voter suppression bill that might be the end of democracy.

  29. wholeymolly on

What? He said that long time ago by way of glazing dictators everywhere.

This is news to someone, i guess.

  30. CrystalSplice on

We lost this long ago. We’ve been living in a façade, a fantasy world where people think “norms” still exist.

The 2020s are the “find out” decade. This means a lot of different things, but none of it is good for us, the people.
