      This is right on the fascist schedule. Take down institutions. Good that we have other press outlets but with less resources. Internet YouTubers do t have the resources to maintain foreign bureaus to provide coverage of foreign events, etc.

      Well, to be fair, the world is heading into rough waters. Democracies are not exactly geared towards war.

      We’ll for sure see a degradation of civil liberties in the western world in the next half decade or less, and a rise in authoritarian „moves“.

      Its not good, its not bad. It’s just consequence.

      But mostly it will be butt-hurt bad.

      The idea that the US ever ranked in the highest category of democracy makes it kind of hard to take this ranking serious for me. A country where it is practically impossible to start your own political party doesn’t really strike me as democratic.

      The idea that the US is supposedly still more democratic than the UK, Portugal or even Malaysia is wild to me. Modern day US seems far more in line with Hungary or current day Indonesia, which they rank as an Electoral autocracies.
