  1. I would love to see that, a new transatlantic EU on the ruins of EU and NATO

I doubt many European countries would be against it.

Maybe Hungary. But that country can join brics or become the newest USA state

  3. As a Californian I’m proud of EU and Canada! I hope California can rise up without the US holding us back one day

Does the EU really want a 9,000km undefended land border with the United States?

Against it. Canada isn’t European, if we let them in this will make the identity of the union blurry. Who else can apply to join? Australia? Where do we draw the line? It would make our geopolitical strategies harder if we have to accommodate for the needs of member states that far away. Also, I’m not sure having a massive border with the US is in the interest of the EU.

I am however, positive about strengthening the bilateral relationship with Canada on mutually beneficial deals.

  6. Would be awesome but think there might be a mass exodus of people from Europe to lovely big Canada

France still hasn’t ratified the existing Canada EU trade deal *ten* years after it was signed because of their massively protectionist agriculture industry, and they’re not the only EU country to block it.

I can’t see Canada being allowed in the single market if even just the existing limited deal is too much for member states. Macron talks a big game on foreign policy but always puts French protectionism first.

I don’t see the rationale for making Canada a full EU member unless the Union itself evolves into a different kind of political and institutional framework.

While there is clear alignment today, the question is whether that alignment is structurally durable over time. Geography, security context, and political ecosystems still matter.

I strongly support a very close partnership with Canada, but it should be designed with governance mechanisms that reflect both shared interests and the differences in our respective regional contexts.

As a Canadian, that’s kind of hilarious. Yea, let’s take the UK’s seat at the dinner table, why not.

It would never happen. It would null and void the Canadian agreements with the US and Mexico. Regardless of the current administration there’s a short period until the next president is gone. 2.5 years isn’t a long time in the scheme of things

This would be a dream come true! Canada and the EU. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Not being able to negotiate independent trade deals with the US despite sharing a land border would presumably be a sticking point for Canada

  14. The best way to collapse the EU, is to lose the strongest bond we share which is our geographical location. If tomorrow we start accepting whoever due to convenient politics, it stops being an european union.

As long as very good trade, travel and work deals are in place between the two countries, there’s no actual reason for an ‚official‘ EU join. Basically, let’s be good friends with benefits.

It would be very hard for Canada to adopt the heath and safety regulations for food and consumer goods required for the European common market and still have the same cross border trade with the USA they have now.

  17. My only requirement is Canada has to make it a law that every country gets a permanent ice rink.

(please please please we need an ice rink in Ireland)

If Canada joins EU, the EU will kinda transcend into worldwide/international union than just European. Honestly, I’m not against it. Canada is cool and it would be nice to have them in our economic region.

Oh, please, yes. I’m Danish and this would be the prefect pretext to restart our old drinking game. Then there’s all the other numerous bilateral advantages of course, but we all know what the real motivation would be here.

  20. I really wish Scotland got our independence vote. I really really didn’t want to leave the EU 🙁

As a Canadian that lives in Scotland and wants to move to the Netherlands, yes please.
