      Canada should be ruled by Canadians, not people across the ocean

      Although to be fair, our PM is across the ocean most of the time anyway

      Closer relationship, yes. But I don’t want European Parliament to dictate our national policy 6000Km away.

      This feels like one of those ideas that people chuckle at and dismiss when it’s initially brought up, but continues to slowly gain momentum until it seems inevitable.

      How about no thank you. I’m all for having a closer partnership but we don’t need to join the EU

      I would actually rather construct a more precisely beneficial union from scratch with UK, NZ, Australia and then just sign a trade deal with EU.

      Take it how you may, I think closer and more diverse trade and partnership arrangements are a smart idea. There are many different types of membership to the EU and none of them are being ruled my a central institution. All of the member states operate individually and with autonomy with an agreed set of rules, standards and currency.

      And again this is just a single comment from a single nation. It doesn’t mean anything tangible beyond that.

      The EU? Like the European Union? The one that is in Europe? … is Canada in Europe now?

      Canada isn’t even united as a whole country.

      So much of the EU’s structure is geared towards the countries actually being a part of Europe. It just wouldn’t work.

      Look everyone eventually one day if we want more equality and safety globally a world government will be required. We have to stop fighting over resources and borders and we need to end religions influance. Else we will never grow and end hunger or homelessness etc. greed is the death of all

      The freedom of movement would be interesting. How many Canucks would bail and move to the Med and how many Europeans would head to the New World?
