In dieser Bergregion bemerkten wir etliche rauchende Dächer. Und nein, es war nicht die Verdunstung des Wassers von den nassen Dächern. Die Sonne schien schon ein paar Stunden und es handelte sich definitiv um Rauch, nicht um Wasserdampf
Und ich frage mich, ob es kein Zufall ist, dass sie alle gleichzeitig Häuser niedergebrannt haben

It’s called a sušara. I assume you were in Cetinje or Njeguši.
These small buildings are traditionally used for drying and curing meat, especially prosciutto and sausages.
